Businessmen arraigned over threat to kill ex-IG's wife

TWO businessmen, Babatunde Gbadamosi and Ajisebutu Adebayo have been arraigned before Igbosere Magistrate's Court, Lagos, following their alleged involvement in a threat to kill the wife of former Inspector-General of Police, Mrs Funke Balogun.

The Police had brought the accused before the Magistrate, Miss Ade Awogboro, on an eight-count charge of attempted murder, stealing, breach of peace, threat to life and assault.

The offence is contrary to sections 320, 390, 355, 275 and 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 17, Vol 11, and Laws of the Lagos State of Nigeria, 2004.

The accused were said to have conspired to commit the act on May 12, 2009 at Oko-Olomi Village, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

The police prosecutor, Mr. Peter Nwaowu, also claimed that the accused allegedly engaged in dangerous driving and chased Balogun with an intention to kill her.

He added that the accused also stole Balogun's cash, cell phones, bangles and trinkets valued at N105, 000.

The prosecutor claimed that the accused assaulted Balogun and threatened her life by informing her they would kill her and her family.

But when the seven -count charge was read to the accused, they pleaded 'not guilty' to the offence.

The magistrate later granted bail to the accused in the sum of N1m with two sureties and adjourned the case till June 3.
