Until there’s an official announcement of the accurate cause of the death of Prince Audu Abubakar, speculations and near-truths are all we are left with.

One thing is for sure though- The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Kogi state, Audu Abubakar is dead, and will be buried on Monday.

How exactly he died, however remains be to ascertained, owing to the fact that there are several versions of his demise.

1. According to Premium Times, Prince Audu started complaining of stomach cramps on Saturday, the day of the gubernatorial election.

The newspaper’s source said: “He suffered a stroke this morning. Another one occurred this afternoon and that was fatal.”

2. PM News on the other hand, said he suffered a massive stroke around 3:10 pm on Sunday, and died in his village of Ogbonicha.

The report said Audu, who had a history of heart-related problems, fell ill on Saturday after casting his vote.

He was said to have been vomiting blood at some stage, but was stabilised by doctors around him.

Furthermore, PM News reported that his condition deteriorated on Sunday morning, and just as an air ambulance was being arranged to transport him for medical attention, he died.

3. Meanwhile, Vanguard reports that he slumped and died after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the result of the election inconclusive.

4. But our friends at The Scoop had a more interesting report, as obtained from a relative of Audu.

The relative was quoted to have said: “People rushed him to congratulate him after the elections in the 21 local government areas were announced. In the midst of the commotion, he started gasping for breath.”

In all the different versions of Audu’s death, one thing is consistent- the fact that he suffered a stroke, but on the other hand, the circumstances surrounding his passing, is in doubt at this point in time.
