I guess most people currently reading this post would have heard of sports betting at one point or the other. For those that don’t know what it means, read up here
It is no longer news that about 50% (fifty percent) of youths in Nigeria today have at one point or the order been involved in sports gambling or betting as it is called.
The reason for youths involvement in this act differ from one person to another.
– Some are of the “get rich quick” mentality
– Some are simply never contented with what they have; hence the quest to double their cash overnight.
– Some do it because they have nothing else to do to make money.
– Some simply see it as easy “business” as they say.

Let me take you on a quick but critical assessment of how sports gambling (betting) works.
As a bettor, you are most likely in a mental cum psychological circle.
Here is what I mean…
As a bettor, you stake 100 naira for instance expecting to win Seventy-five thousand naira; the common trend these days is you lose by a game or two. You are likely to get depressed after three or more of such narrow losses but encourage yourself by hoping for better days ahead when you will win back you losses. As a result of your believes, you keep trying.
Peradventure luck smiles on you and you win, you are optimistic of another big win in time to come; so you keep staking your win gradually.
The point here is: win or lose, a gambler will never quit. So, you win money today, lose tomorrow, win the next day, lose the day after; and the circle continues.
Ask yourself how many of those that are said to win millions through sports betting do you know in person?
The truth though is that it favours some punters but doesn’t some. The only constant winners here are the bookmakers because for every bet won in a day, there will be over a hundred losses. The bookmakers simply collect money from the losers, pay the very few winners and keep the balance.
