What do “Chartered” and CICRM mean? The initials CICRM are the first letters of our official name – Chartered Institute of Customer Relationship Management. A Chartered professional is a person who has gained a level of competence in a particular field of work and as such has been awarded a formal credential by an organization in recognition. It is considered a status of professional competency, and the Chartered status is awarded mainly by professional bodies’ viz. Bar Council etc. and learned societies. Common in Britain and in the Commonwealth it has been adapted by organizations around the world. On acceptance, either as an Associate Member, Full Member, Fellow Membership, you will receive an appropriate certificate known as Chartered Customer Service Professional. Educational Programme The Institute will give an applicant credit for any marketing, customer service, public relations, business management and other related courses or work experience toward Institute accreditation. Any diplomas, degrees, or designations will be considered to determine membership status within the Institute. As your career develops and as additional courses are completed you may apply to have your status upgraded. The Institute offers a comprehensive educational program in association with Chartered Institute of Management Specialist, USA and Customer Service Training Institute, USA an institution with over 30 years of experience in the educational field and a proven record of successfully helping thousands of ambitious people. Customer Service Professionals come from a variety of backgrounds but unlike other professions, such as Accounting, there has been no formal industry body recognition. Anyone may call themselves customer service professionals but few have any qualification other than experience to prepare them for the role. Despite job titles such as customer service director, customer relationship manager, call center manager, manager - customer experience, national manager, customer satisfaction and consumer relations manager, few people holding these positions have any customer service qualifications. They come from diverse backgrounds - some have undergraduate degrees from a wide variety of disciplines, others have completed more generalized post graduate study such as an MBA. A significant component of Nigeria's customer service managers and professionals have no formal qualifications instead gaining considerable experience at a variety of levels in the organization before working their way up 'through the ranks'. Professionals in other roles study their chosen discipline and then are recognized by their professional association. For example, despite studying a recognized accounting degree, an accountant is not 'Certified' or 'Chartered' until they have passed all the professional examinations of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Association of National Accountants of Nigeria(ANAN) worked through their professional body's course requirements and are recognized as qualified in the field. The Institute believes it is time Nigerian organizations treat service as importantly as finance. Chartered Institute of Customer Relationship Management is working with interested organizations to develop trainings, assessment and certification programmes leading to Certified Customer Service Management Professional Certifications and it’s the only formal and internationally recognized “Chartered Customer Relationship Manager" designation. It is time for all those in industries and the government sector with customer service management and leadership responsibilities to gain formal professional qualifications and for CEOs and human resource departments to insist on only employing customer service leaders recognized by CICRM's peak professional body for Customer Service – The Chartered Institute of Customer Relationship Management. What is the Definition of Customer Service? There are many different answers to the question "What is customer service?" The following is a useful way to define customer service: Customer service is how you deliver your product and service to the customer including the following: • accessibility • efficiency • cost-effectiveness • satisfaction What is Customer Service? A customer is anyone who is able to make a buying decision A customer is anyone who determines your stay in business A customer is anyone who loves your products or service or anyone who is interested in what you sell. A customer is one whose perception of you is positive The word “customer” is not limited to only people who purchase your items but include to a large extent the co-workers, clients and anyone else your organization has dealings with. WHAT IS CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT? • Customer relationship is level of service satisfaction connection between the company and the existing customers. • Customer relation is the approach to winning and retaining customers. • Quality customer service is the orientation of all resources and all people in a company towards customer satisfaction. • Customer service is a function of how well an organization is able to constantly and consistently exceed the needs of the customer. What is Customer Service? Customer service is the provision of service to customers before, during and after a purchase. According to Turban et al. (2002), "Customer service is a series of activities designed to enhance the level of customer satisfaction – that is, the feeling that a product or service has met the customer expectation." • The importance of customer service may vary by product or service, industry and customer. The perception of success of such interactions will be dependent on employees "who can adjust themselves to the personality of the guest," according to Micah Solomon. Customer service can also refer to the culture of the organization - the priority the organization assigns to customer service relative to other components, such as product innovation or low price. In this sense, an organization that values good customer service may spend more money in training employees than the average organization, or proactively interview customers for feedback. • From the point of view of an overall sales process engineering effort, customer service plays an important role in an organization's ability to generate income and revenue. From that perspective, customer service should be included as part of an overall approach to systematic improvement. A customer service experience can change the entire perception a customer has of the organization. Other useful definitions are: Customer service is about creating a relationship of trust and loyalty beyond the immediate interaction It is what a company does to meet and exceed customer expectations Customer service is a company-wide philosophy about understanding the customer and what they want and need Customer service is the process of helping people find what they want during the entire transaction cycle Customer service is the degree, to which a product fails to meet, meets or exceeds customer's expectations. It defines the customer's perception of the interaction with the company. Written by: Samuel O. Masebinu, Esq. www.cicrmglobal.org Email: icrminfo@yahoo.com |
