she never thought of being a mother.

she can't and she won't.

if her parent had succeeded in terminating her, she would never have been in this condition.

she will never forgive herself if she ever brought a child into her world.

all she wanted to know now was when the abortion would take place.

Maggie had left the room for her to rest, she attended to her different client in the reception.

Maggie had asked her not to eat anything. she sneaked out and came back wit a bottle of squad give brandy and ten tiny tablets.

she asked her to take the drug with the brandy for a quicker action.

even though she was nervous to get rid of her pregnancy.

her conscience pricked her.

voices in her sneered at her.

"you re evil, after killing your siblings and dad you want to kill your own child, prostitute!, you re worst than Lucifer".

Maggie had excused her to go fetch water.

the voices grew louder.

she sat down, she confronted it.

"you don't know me, so don't judge me, just leave me alone".

"you will die, you want to commit abortion you murderer, you will die instead, hahahahaha" the voice in her head sounded like her late adopted father.


she stood up.

she felt a sharp pain.

she tried to stand up again and realized moist seeping down from her skirt.

it was thick and reddish in colour.

blood!

the voice became louder "hahaha hahahahaha hahahahaha, you re dying"

more voices in her head. all laughing.

she tried to walk and the bleeding increased.

she saw things double.

"Maggie, Maggie, she screamed as she fell into oblivion.

she opened her eyes.

the bed was swirling. she felt she was floating.

she closed her eyes again.

and opened them. same thing.

she felt weak, couldn't move her body.

where is she?

she tried to recall.
the more she tried the more thoughts eludes her.

"mama you Don wake up?, aaah! thank God o"

she was lying there weak and bloated.

her stomach began to churn terrible.

she knew she wanted to throw-up.

to puke.

Maggie noticed and brought a plastic bucket she vomited in it.

until her jaw hurt.

she felt better.

Maggie brought water and panadol to her.

"mama. take this, drink two tablet, e go help with the headaches".

she collected the tablet and stared at it.

the memory came flooding like torrent of water.

she held her head to avoid it from swaying.

she became alert and tried to stand.

"calm down mama" Maggie said.

"you had too much of the brandy in an empty stomach, that was why you collapsed, I was scared something would happen o".


she touched her stomach as if to feel if the pregnancy was still there. she whispered.

"did it work".

Maggie smilled and nodded.

"when I came into the room, I met you laying down on the ground sleeping and bleeding, I was scared at first but I realized it was the effect of too much brandy, I cleaned you up and padded you, I'm happy you are awake now".

for the first time in her life she tasted love.

someone cared for her.

someone loved her.

two tiny drops of tears escaped her eye lid.

Maggie went over and hugged her.

she was thankful to her friend, all she could do was sob softly.

this time it was a cry to celebrate being loved.

she didn't in her wildest imagination knew that the foetus growing in her was unaffected.

it was determined to live.

to taste life.
