The next round of state creation took place on 3 February 1976.

Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Imo, Niger, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Plateau, Sokoto, Abuja FCT.

This shaped the basic modern Nigeria as we know it, the regions were further subdivided into the various states from which newer states were created.

The former Midwestern region was also renamed Bendel state.
