The Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) has been dragged to the National Industrial Court in Lagos by one Emmanuel Onuche, who claimed that he lost sight in both his eyes and became totally blind via industrial accident while on duty at the company’s factory.

Mr. Onuche, who alleges that the accident occurred while working at the Ikeja plant of the company, during which caustic soda poured on him, rendering him completely blind in both eyes.

He therefore prays the court to award him N110 million as compensation for becoming blind while on official duty at the company.

Mr. Onuche says at the time of accident, he was a contract staff at the Quality Assurance Department of the company and argued that had the company provided him with safety wears, he would not have suffered the accident.

According to him, the company has failed to pay him any compensation since the accident occurred on May 31, 2013, even though he has written to the company through a lawyer.

He also alleged that he was sacked unjustly and his N20, 000 salary stopped simply because he demanded for compesnsation.
