Few weeks back, the nation was greeted with the frenzy of the arrest and detention of erstwhile National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki in connection with allegations bordering on illegal possession of arms, money laundering and diversion of funds meant for procurement of arms and ammunition. As the prosecution of the former security chief goes back and forth, news filtered in just yesterday that notable Nigerians who are mostly members of the opposition and their acquaintances including media mogul, Raymond Dokpesi had been arrested by either the EFCC or the DSS for alleged involvement in the same arms purchase quagmire. While all well-meaning Nigerians should key into any steps taken to rid Nigeria of graft, care must be taken not to allow such euphoria to push us back to the dark days of tyranny where rights of citizens were impugned upon in the course of fighting corruption. While the laws of the land should be allowed to take its full course, we must not close our eyes to the brigade of seeming infractions unfolding in the entire arms purchase saga and this brings us to the following points:

1. Funds allocated to the office of the NSA for national security are not meant entirely for the procurement of arms as been touted by the sitting government hence, it's not unexpected that monies budgeted for arms procurement can be redirected for other exigencies as they arise.

2. Funds allocated as Security Votes are not entirely expended on security be it at Federal or State levels. If these were so, State Governors should be asked to explain if their yearly security votes were used for arms procurement only.

3. As a result of the sensitive nature of national security, full disclosures are not often made on security expenditure approved by the President/ Governor or security bills sent to the Legislature for appropriation. If the approving authority sees the need to redirect an expense head to other pressing needs, it must not be taken as an act of corruption. Our concern should be whether or not those funds were judiciously spent.

The government of Buhari must exercise restraint in compromising our security in the name of fighting corruption and the desire to silence opposition voices in Nigeria.

Oh really? Try to read the piece with an undiluted mind. Our nation comes first before politics.

APC took that clue of one-party system from PDP. I could remember there was a time that opposition government can only be found in Lagos state. Other state of the federation under pdp. Pdp should stop crying. They wouldn't have been voted out if they ruled well.

With all the allegations leveled against those arrested, you still don't see the need to prosecute them!
Has the govt deprived any of them of their constitutional rights?

I'm sure of one thing:

There is a supernatural power that rules over the affairs of men, whether he/they like(s) it or not.

They are mere allegations until the court says otherwise. The fact that monies were paid out from the office of the NSA to individuals or corporate entities does not amount to corruption. Those arrested would defend themselves appropriately.

This is just a display of stupidity by the writer. Who did you expect to have access to fund or contract in any govt? Is it not those that are in same party with the govt? So when the new govt comes in tru another party and start dealing with those that stole money(whether for ammunition or not), and who happens to be in the ousted party, the next thing to do is to wail "witch hunting".

People have stole away your destiny and ur hell bent on writing rubbish.

These days everyone wants to/is now political analyst or pundit.Even those who ought to sit down and take a critical stock of their life as 2015 winds down now suddenly thinks that their opinion matters or count.

These same people will be the 1st to haul abuse and insult at the president should any bomb go off.

All Buhari is asking Dasuki and co is for them to account for every single kobo they signed off on,all in the name of buying phantom arms.

If you lots can't deal with it,locate the nearest lagoon and jump in it.

Your opinion and petty sentiment is never noted.

So, why are you ventilating here? Has any of them been hanged already?
What's ur point exactly? That they shouldn't have been arrested in the first place?

Something is actually wrong with you. If you think you're more analytical, why can't you ponder on why Fashola and Ameachi are regarded as saints by Buhari despite petitions written against them? The fact is that the president is sentimental and selective in the so called fight against corruption. Use your head dude.

This would be the last time I will indulge you so here it is.....

Fashola and Amechi were not the NSA,they didn't have a hand directly or indirectly to the loss of thousands of lives, properties and live stocks.

You must be dumb if you think Buhari will be chasing Dasuki if the bone of contention is 78million naira.

You must be extremely stupidd to shout witch hunting if you have never lose any relative or friend to the boko haram insurgency.

Dude your rant begins and ends here.

Deal with it tongue tongue

Just Check your post and see if you actually made any sense. By the way, I have decided not to exchange diatribes with people on Nairaland and you won't force me to do that. Who told you the allegation against Fashola is restricted to N78 million? How about the billions of naira allegedly mismanaged by Amaechi? People like you are better ignored for their folly. Don't quote me again.
