ooyebola: The word "total loss" is an insurance term used to describe a vehicle that sustain a loss/damage greater that the value of the car. For example: if a car is stolen, the vehicle will be declared as a total loss cos the vehicle is gone. If in the future it was found, it will be sold at salvage auction but the CARFAX will show a total loss. Also, if a vehicle is involved in an accident, it is possible for the vehicle to sustain damages that is greater than the value of the car. Hence it will be declared as a total loss by the insurance company and sold at the auction. So without seeing the car, it will be hard for me to know if it was declared as a total loss cos of theft recovery accident.
