Hey guys,

I am the the admin of http://www.webfireng.com ;an innovative small business discussion community.

I guess I made a fatal mistake in my drive to get traffic to it when I started building up links to it

Because I now get at least 1 automated sign up per day that I have soft-pedaled on my traffic campaign pending when the automated sign up issue is resolved.

So guys,I need your help here and I bank hope with you to get that ugly issue resolved.

sorry man, your journey has just begun, i get an average of 7 bot registrations per day, nairaland gets far more!

There are tools on SMF to stop them (at least for the time being until the bot herders get wiser, and they always do).

The best solution i've used is BotScout, search for tht modification on SMF mod list.

You can ensure more security by forcing activation upon registration. Use advanced image verification, those ones that will ask you for calculations. These bots will find it difficult registering.

I'd like to try the advanced image verification;the one that asks for calculation before thinking of forcing people to go through activations.

So how do get that verification?

Lol, bots beat the crap out of every default verification thing by smf. I have helped to develop mods for smf. So i know the software like A.B.C.D up till P. The best way is to get around them through custom editing of security files. I play with them a lot too.

But if you will take my advice

download and install this mod from smf , Anti-Spam Verification Questions

You will have to ask your own questions and add the correct answers.
People will have to get the correct answer before they can register.

I like bots to crawl my forum but i dont allow them to post. hahahahaha!

If you need my help, meet me on my forum, the address is on my signature.
