How Biblical Is Church Wedding? by femidejulius(m): 7:24am On Dec 06, 2015 |
Yesterday on this forum I read how a church bought sorrow to the life of a to-be couple by turning down their wedding even after people have been seated inside the church. A lot of churches nowadays will not give their nod to marriages because the wife to-be is already pregnant. Whilst this thread is in no way justifying pre marital sex, it does intend to open the mind of people to the truth about churches and their responsibilities as regards marriage and to save people from shame which might eventually lead them away from the church : 1. Church wedding is unchristian and unbiblical: Go through the bible and see for yourself. The weddings take place according to traditional belief. From this, traditional wedding is the acceptable wedding according to the bible. 2. These churches won't test for your virginity but will test for pregnancy. The result is that dos who have constant sexual intercourse but are smart enough not to get pregnant and those who have been severally pregnant but have done abortion are free to get married in the church. This is injustice by the church. 3. Lord don't despise sinners : Jesus throughout his life on earth is always seen amongst sinners. Remember the parable of the lost coin and the parable of the lost sheep. He said he came because of them. He will never turn them back. Okay, but the church will refuse to join the to-be couple together because they have sinned (she has indulge in pre marital sex). When you turn them down from the church, where do you expect them to go? A lot has since been discouraged from the church because of this. 4. Why do marriages still crash even after the wedding took place in the church? Why do even pastors wedding crash? Getting the "pastor's blessings" do not in any way guarantee your success in marriage. You don't necessarily need it. 5. I know some pastor and churches have turn the church wedding to money making venture. If you hear what they collect to make the church wedding happen in their church, una go fear fear. They ask for this and that before the wedding, but then, how much do they pay for salvation? Conclusion: A traditional marriage is what actually makes you husband and wife. While there's nothing really wrong about with church marriage, it is actually avoidable. You aren't committing any sin by doing only traditional wedding. NB: While these are my person opinions, I am open to criticism. 162 Likes 29 Shares |

I think church wedding is as important as traditional wedding even though it's overrated. And there's nothing like church wedding in the bible. 10 Likes |

ichommy:.No marriage is legal until registered by the state in every supreme state like Nigeria. So even church wedding is useless unless the wedding certificate is signed.. For me i will go with the tradition of my own people and not borrow someone else's. . i will wed in the African traditional style with style .. Notify the local government to provide the necessary documents to be signed by married couples. 36 Likes 6 Shares |

Op your right but I doubt if upto 5% of our ladies will like your idea. I was chatting with a lady who told me that is fornication if she sleeps with her husband after Traditional wedding before church wedding. That one got me thinking I asked her to show me where that is in the Bible, where actually church wedding is the bible. All the wedding that happened in the bible where all traditional including the famous one that our dear lord turn water to wine. I hope we will be wiser after this post. 25 Likes 1 Share |

my brother, don't encourage fornication, before I say anything read Hebrew 13:4 the bible said, marriage must be holy, with the marital bed undefiled, whoremongers and adulteries God will judge, secondly saying they only look after those who are pregnant so as to punish them and leave those who commit premarital sex you are wrong,in my church,if you have had sex with your wife to be no wedding, that is the correct standard of Christ, the bible said,if the foundation is faulty what those the righteous do,and the bible still said, the righteous has nothing to do,so therefore you can't start your marriage on a faulty foundation of fornication 3rdly,marriage in the scripture happened then before the establishment of church, and no church will tell you not to do traditional marriage, but what they avoid is pouring libation to the ancestors, which happens in almost every traditional marriage, and by the time you do that, you are connect the couples to the spirit of there forefathers, that is why most marriages experience what they don't know about, which is against the scripture in exodus 20:1_10,for more clarification add me on whatsapp, 07039476669 16 Likes 1 Share |

None of the weddings recorded in The Bible was conducted in Church or a gathering of Saints. Wedding should be between families and relatives not Church & Clergy men 18 Likes |

Our colonial masters really messed with our heads. Why on earth will couples do two weddings?? It still baffles me. I believe the biblical way to go is to marry according to your tradition and sign the marriage register. That's all. 7 Likes 1 Share |

It is not biblical, it's western. Became popolarized in the medieval times when the west began their conquest and spread the Christian faith, along with it, their culture. 1 Like |

OP ur point No.2 has always been an issue for me. It appears that the church is not punishing the sin of pre-marital sex but the result of the sin and those who hv the guts to live with the result. Where shall a sinner go if nt to church? 9 Likes 1 Share |

Op, please pardon me, as I give you a little background to 'church wedding' in Nigeria, after which I will answer your question. First of all, in Nigeria, there are three types of marriages recognised BY LAW. They are: customary, court, and then, Islamic marriage. Now, what we call 'church wedding' is actually the court marriage properly so called. However, this is in instances where the church issues the marriage certificate of the Federal republic of nigeria to the couple, which is the same certificate those who wed in court/registry are given. Where the church doesn't issue this, it cannot be equated with 'court marriage'. Me thinks we can call this one 'church celebration/blessing' simpli cita. Just to clarify the above, only churches licensed by the government to conduct marriages are allowed to issue those certificates. . However, if the church is not licenced, it will not be able to so issue. In this case, the 'church wedding' would simply be a gathering to celebrate with the new couple, and then, an opportunity to be blessed by a Minister and the church as a whole. Another instance where this certificate will not be given in church, is where in addition to 'wedding' there, the couple goes to court/registry to wed. In this instance, the court/registry will be doing the Issuing. Now, flowing from the above: Que: is it unscriptural for a couple to decide to do the church wedding in a licenced church, and obtain their FRN marriage certificate from same, in accordance to the law of the land? Answer: NO. Infact, Scriptures abound enjoining Christians to obey the law of the land and 'church wedding' qua 'court marriage' in this instance is the law of the land called Nigeria. Que: In a situation where the FRN marriage certificate is not issued in the 'Church wedding', would the 'wedding' still be scriptural? Answer: YES. The bible also enjoins Christians to rejoice with them that rejoice. So, yes, all the gele- tying and suiting up, the excitement that goes with the church wedding is very scriptural, with or without the certificate being obtained there. Moreso, it's an opportunity to be blessed by the church! Ain't nothing wrong with that, is there? Lastly, I would just like to remind christians that the basis of Christianity isn't these things that go to no issue, cos every time I see threads like this, I feel bad that the we are leaving issues like our standing with God, to argue about mundane things. Let's focus on what is important. Thanks. #I apologise for all my typos, real life calls. 18 Likes |
