Many ethnic groups originate from others but at a point in history cease to be part of their parent group and recognise their supposed dialect as a distinct language. It is all over us. Urhobo vs Isoko, Efik vs Ibibio vs Annang are our close neighbours.

In some instances people of same ethnic group might be different nationals like Yoruba of Nigeria and Benin Republic or Fulani of several countries.
