Rector of Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN),
Oron, Akwa Ibom State, Joshua Okpo, is currently
in a critical state having slipped into coma after
being hit by a sudden cardiac-arrest.
Vanguard gathered that Okpo was hospitalised at
the National Hospital in Abuja, yesterday when the
incident happened.
Recall that Minister of Transportation, Rotimi
Amaechi, a few weeks ago ordered the probe of the
accounts of the Academy and the tenure of its
Rector over the N18 billion released to the
institution.
The Rector, it was gathered, incurred the Minister’s
wrath when he accused the Nigerian Maritime
Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) of
starving the academy of funds.
The Minister, it was learnt, summoned the Acting
Director-General of NIMASA, Haruna Jauro and
demanded explanation as to why the agency was
starving the academy of its statutory five per cent
funds.
“The NIMASA DG was really shocked by Okpo’s
allegation and he explained to the Honourable
Minister that NIMASA had regularly released money
due to the academy,” a report said.
Jauro, it was learnt, also informed the Minister that
NIMASA had released more than N18 billion to
MAN Oron between 2009 and 2014.
It was at this point that Okpo, who also attended
the meeting, confirmed to the Minister that the
academy had actually received up to N13 billion
since 2011 when he assumed duties as the Rector
of the institution, the report added.

Does anyone in their right sense still think GEJ was a saint? I do not for one believe he is not a party to all the stealing. It is just impossible for him to claim he was not aware of the massive looting that was going on.

Unfortunately he may not be going to jail due to the volatile situation of the country but no one cares about he going to jail, provided we recover all our stolen money and confiscate most of his properties and that of his allies, I am fine.

Never again will a man who is so careless to misplace the shoes his poor parents struggled to buy for him rule this nation again. NEVER again we will trust a careless man who has everything he has through good fortune.

We will rather work hard than depend on good luck which doesn't last as GEJ has proven beyond reasonable doubt.

This is what gives me hope that Nigeria will be great. Greater than the world ever imagined. We will finally get it right.

I personally believe we will not see much impact under Buhari, mainly because the rot is just too much but with Buhari, a solid foundation for good governance will be laid and from there, we will be off to greatness. Greatness thats long overdue.

He truly transformed the school since he started as an administrator before being confirmed as d rector. He provided steady electricity and water, build nice accommodation for staffs and youth corpers, build a better sick bay(hospital), increase cadets welfare, build well tied roads and currently made the department of transport to be awarding a Bsc and not HND to cadets. He builds comfortable hostel for both male and female cadets with more classrooms and lecturers. And imbibe discipline to cadets by ensuring they adhere strictly to the cadet standing orders.
It's just unfortunate that he is into this mess. He should return to life that's my wish for him first then other things can follow suit.
