Don’t hire your brother. Don’t hire your sister. Don’t hire your mother, or your father. And just to be on the safe side, don’t hire your uncle or your aunt. Adding family members to your company could be bad for business.

#1. You Lose Leverage
The biggest problem when hiring friends or family is that you often lose the leverage you would otherwise have with a stranger. Haggling on price, demanding a rework or having to get tough about a deadline can make for an awkward situation when it's a close friend or family member. Whenever you're dealing with a friend there is another element that enters into it that would not be there if it were a strictly business relationship with a stranger. You lose a lot of leverage because you're unlikely to put your foot down for a lot of things. Everything is weighed by the fact that you could cause problems in the relationship or family.

#2. Limits in Communication With Colleagues
Your colleagues wouldn't have the option to say anything about your relative even if they wanted you. They can talk and even gossip about boss between each other and you won't lose anything. But if the member of yours who is also works with you is incompetent - not everyone will have the guts to talk about it. Even a harmless but negative feedback can be hard to take and ruin the relationships between you and your co-workers.

#3. Requirements Too HIgh Or Too Low
You don't want your co-workers to treat your relative indulgently. It is smart. That's why youdecide to give him or her more responsibilities. But your relative might not appreciate this. Or the opposite situation: you know your family member is having a hard time and you try to be easy on him, but in this way you have to give part of his work to others or even do it by yourself.

#4. Switching From Family Relationships To Business Relationships All the Time

You are heading to your bosses office and there you see a warm smile on your mothers face... Or on the contrast, you want to have a lunch with this person and all he wants to talk is work. Everything needs to have its time and place.

#5. You Can't Fire Him/Her

While in the normal situation you can critisize or even fire someone, when it's your relative - you have to deal with him or ruin your relationships.

#6. You Can't Be Objective
When you hire a relative you might not even look at his/hers professional quolities. When we do such thing we automaticly think they are on the list of good ones. But the work you think is easy might be pretty difficult for him. And all the responsibility is on you. For the same reason you can be waiting for any kind of promotion for a very long time. Just because your boss is related to you - he might know too much about you and can't be objective beforehand.

#7. Automatic Consent On Anything
If hard times are coming you will be the first person who will be asked to be patient. Because you have to understand how bad it is.

Family in the workplace inevitably comes with baggage that you don’t necessarily want to carry – especially when your mind has to be a million other places. In order to make the best decisions for your company, eliminate variables that might cloud your judgment and expertise. After all, if you have family on the brain then your business mind might become clouded, and like good weather, it’s best when clear.

I still can hire my family member provided its from my immediate family and it's my younger not older sibling.
But all in all, I don't pray to ever have to hire my younger sibling. I pray they also suceed even well enough than me.
