Califonia, United States, The Founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Pastor Temitope Balogun Joshua has been announced as the 2015 winner of the Yoruba Person of the Year Award 2015.
The distinguished honour was bestowed on him by the Egbe Omo Oodua Parapo, a coalition of 35 Pan-Yoruba groups drawn from across the world. The announcement was made this week in the United States, US where the group held its annual conference.
“We give this award to Pastor Joshua out of over 500 nominees screened by the Planning Committee of the Association. We recognize his untiring support for the poor, his promotion of positive images about Yoruba people and more importantly his commitment to lifting millions of poor people from a state of stupor’, Dr Akinwale Adewunmi, the Chairman of the award committee said in the statement.
According to the group, Pastor Joshua remains a golden example of how an individual can impact on the greater society without exploiting them.
According to the Egbe Omo Oodua Parapo, all over the world, Pastor Joshua continues to prove that something good can come out of Nigeria. He continues to add honour and admiration to the Yoruba nation. He is like a snow in the dark alley.
The group stated “Pastor Joshua started as a poor little boy. He had no access to momentum education, neither did he enjoy any government educational opportunity or any outstanding benefit from his society. Yet, he built himself. He educated himself and today stands out like a Professor in the greater University of life and living.
The group said one of the major challenges facing the Yoruba nation is the collapse of values, the degradation of the Yorubas heritage, poverty and the budding art of street and community violence which stand as obstacles to sustainable livelihood of the over 150 million Yoruba people spread across the world.
The group said poverty and lack of access to food and essentials of live are twin specters that continue to hunt the future of the Yoruba nation. This problem is compounded by primitive accumulation of wealth, poor leadership vision, lack of reward for hardwork, hopelessness and lack of dynamism of the younger generation and the overwhelming domination of sectarian politics in place of group interest and solidarity. The Egbe said Pastor Joshua, more than any other living person in this generation, has been able to assist the poor and uphold the dignity of the human person. He has done this without seeking any public position to occupy.
“You have made innumerable contributions to the social and economic development of the society. You have become an institution that makes us proud. Little wonder that you are the biggest tourist attraction in the South West of today. Millions of people from all over the world come to Nigeria, presidents of nations, high and low people from Asia, Europe and the Americas will never have any reason to visit Nigeria if not for the work that you are doing. We thank you for this astonishing role and we believe you deserve more than a golden award.”
