Nice dig.

this should be a 1974 to 1978 Chevrolet Camaro.

US safety regulations introduced crappy-looking bumpers on all cars of that period which made them look 'different'.

I wonder why this car is in its present state.

are the owners interested in selling?

The plate number shows this car has been out of commission for long....

this is how the car should look in the right hands

This particular model is junk even here in the US.

What is the other car?

PS: Just an FYI, not all old cars are worth restoring, IMHO.

It's hard for me to explain in detail to folks that are not in the US and in the car show circuit. I would advise anyone that wants to restore a Camaro to go with the 1967 through 1969 model. You also want an SS if possible.

I have passed a fourth gen Pontiac TransAM (cousin of the Camaros) through the fleet.

Here are some pictures of Camaros that I took in various shows

Maybe this Wiki can help a bit though it won't necessarily validate the opinion but will explain the generations.

from my research, this particular generation of camaros came at a period when:
**USA just implemented the 'Clean Air Act of 1970' which called for a 90% reduction in automotive emissions by 1975
**elimination of lead in gasoline was implemented
**in order to meet these stringent regulations, GM had to lower the compression ratios of its engines.
**These brought down the hp and torque available significantly.
**Bumpers were also concurrently required to meet the 5mph standard...the cars become uglier
**the camaro also got cats during this period which also robbed the hp further

in summary, the second generation camaros were not as powerful nor stylistic as their predecessors. Despite this, they were sold at a profit.

its fall could be attributed to a change in customer appeal from those classic lines to the 'modern' look cars started taking in the early 80s in order to accommodate the new crash safety requirements....plus their lack of relative power

for emphasis, compare the 79 mustang to the one it replaced; compare this particular camaro with the one it replaced too. To have an industry outlook, compare also the w124 v-booth with the w123 regular

ps...notice how the replacements for the camaro, challenger and mustang look similar in design approach compared to their predecessors.

Well, I thinking you would be interested in meeting the owner and convincing him/her to let you take care of the camaro.

Won't mind if you update us as is.

Ah yes, those legendary 1960s-era muscle cars, parked right beside one another. The '69 Camaro most likely fitted with a Chevy 327 small block V8 engine, and the uber classic '65 Ford Mustang giving good account of itself with the equally "bullet proof" Ford 289 or 302 small block V8 motor tucked under the hood.

The throaty rumble of American heavy metal V8 motor when poised at a red traffic light, can be felt deep down amidst your innards, even before the monster erupts into a thunderous roar and corresponding squeal of tortured tire rubber as the car is gonzo-launched with a tap of the gas pedal.
