A recent post by an online community has stirred panic, as the message suggests that the Iranian military might be planning an assault on Nigeria, in revenge for the Shiites who were killed in Zaria, Kaduna state.

An unverified post by Iran Military suggests that Nigeria might soon be a target

According the post by a Facebook community called the “Iran Military”, the Iranian forces are apparently preparing to “pay a visit” to Nigeria, to avenge the souls of Shiite faithfuls killed in clashes between the Nigerian army and Shia Muslims last week .

The threatening post dated December 15 made a joke of the Nigerian administration, terming it a “puppet regime”.

Below is the snapshot of the post that has started generating heated arguments, sending shivers down the spine of many.

The controversial clash, which began on Saturday, December 12, and spilled on a few days more, has generated diverse reactions both locally and in the international community.

There have been series of protests both home and abroad . It will be recalled that Iranian officials and media condemned and expressed concern over the attack on prominent Shiite cleric Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky by the Nigerian military .

The Iranian foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, called on Nigerian authorities to respect religious figures and rites . On Tuesday, December 15, President Muhammadu Buhari received a call from the Iranian president, Hassan Rouhani, over the Shiite bloodbath .

Various Iranian media outfits report that President Rouhani urged Buhari to act on the issue and “ not allow a small matter degenerate into a bigger one“.

Earlier Tehran summoned Nigeria’s charge d’affaires to express its outrage at the Nigerian army’s deadly crackdown. The Nigerian government was required to “immediately sheds light on the incident, treat the injured, and compensate for damages” .

The Shiite Muslims have continued to protest, calling for the release of their leader Sheikh Zakzaky. The Shiites and the family of El-Zakzaky have said that they were unaware of his whereabouts and were uncertain of his current health status. Certain photos have been allegedly released by the Nigeria army, they show that the cleric is in a really terrible state. A reprisal by the Muslim group is feared, however, leaders of the Islamic movement in Nigeria, have listed five conditions for possible truce.

The leaders presented a catalogue of demands to the federal government, one of their major demands is the immediate release of their leader , which the Nigeria army has said is no longer in their custody.

It is pertinent to noted that the leader of the small Shiite community in Nigeria has close political and religious ties with Iran dating back to the 1979 revolution. Hence, the reason Iran and all its people are putting their weight behind him.

Opinions are divided on the recent Zaria clash, while some believe that the Nigerian army acted in accordance to rules of engagement, others believe that they massacred unarmed civilians and should have exercised more restraint rather than using lethal force.

A lot of brainstorming is still ongoing in different quarters regarding the killings, and as the Nigerians await official statements from both the government and Nigerian army regarding the rumours of war, they can only pray that their feet will not be forced to dance to the drums of war.

if not that Nigeria has failed to take its place in the community of nations and failed to develop its potentials, will it be Iran that will be threatening a country of about 200 million people?

First of, this thread is in the wrong section, the mods should move it to the political section.

secondly, that handle is definitely not the Iranian military handle because there's no way they will even attempt such threats.

Iran cannot even try it. Or else, the United States will have the perfect excuse to attack/destabilize Iran for an unprovoked attack and interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state.

Buhari has brought ant infested wood into his house..I'd not be surprised if the lizards pay him a visit
Iran is a 3000yr old country, and as such knows that the best time to attack a country is when its patriotic fervor is very low as we can see now in Nigeria.
Under Yonatan, even though he killed two of zakzaky's sons didn't see the Iranians threatening fire and brimstone bkos the patriotic fervor was high.
If Iran pulls through this threat, all I can do is to say a Requiem Mass for Nigeria undecided
Re: Nigeria Vs Iran: Are We Really Going To War? by Rawani: 8:11am On Dec 20, 2015
To be honest, this could have been a possibility if it wasn't Buhari in power.

This is because of the close cordial diplomatic and personal relationship between PMB and Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the worldwide leader of the Shiites and Iranian leader of the Islamic Revolution. There is every likelihood that they must have discussed this issue and settled the differences.

Day by day, the trips of the 'junketer-in-chief' continues to reap serious benefits for Nigeria. What an elder sees sitting down....

Iran cannot try that, that would be an unprovoked attack that would throw a spanner into the works in its attempt to mend fences with the west. Save for our slow pace of technological development, a country like Iran should not be a major threat to our security for any reason.

Your writeup shows that you're a poor student of history undecided

Lemme tell you something...

In 1939,Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia invaded and conquered Poland. During this venture, the NKVD(Soviet secret service) massacred 20000 Polish officers at katyn forest.
After months of Polish protests, the Americans conducted an investigation that pointed to the Soviets...do you know what happened
The President then FDR ordered them to cover it up! All bkos they didn't want the Soviets to back out of the war with Hitler.
Now,the west needs Iran more than they need Nigeria...and Nigeria having lost the moral high due to its attacks on a defenseless community would be left to fend for itself angry

Shiites are bred in Iran and Zyria, everyone knows this. So the rumour of shiites incursion and terrorist activities in Nigeria should be formally reported at the UN and at The Haque by our Minister of Justice. This is not a campaign like that of Trump of the Republican, but a Security, Control of Terrorism and Territorial Integrity issues. Let us report Iran now that we might not be guilty of acquiescence. Just see the kind of Red-carpet Reception that Iran gave to our PMB, like there is no one like him. It was suspicious. Iran is playing game in concert to try Nigeria and PMB is susceptible as a valueable Pun in this nefarious game. Please do not say I did not warn us.

Rather sad, coming from a Nigerian. What makes you think the West needs Iran more than it does Nigeria?

War? With Iran? Over the shiites/Nigerian Army clash?

Naaaah. That is impossible.

Anyone can type anything on twitter etc. and claim to be the Iranian military.

War is remotely unlikely.

Besides what will be the motive for attacking Nigeria? People do not just go to war for jokes.

What will it be? Remove Buhari and put a shiite president?

If you say arm and sponsor a Shiite rebel group, I could agree to that. But that will simply boil up the North.

It a battle the Shiites are not likely to win either.
