The kaduna refinery is an oil facility located in northern Nigeria.The refinery according to the government of the day was built inorder to ensure the availability of fuel in the north, as there would be no need for huge tankers to go down southern refineries(warri and portharcourt)to get petrol.
Is this really true,well in time we will find out.
Recently I held a discussion with an uncle who worked with NNPC for 30 years,our discussion centred on the removal of fuel subsidy.He made some revelations as to the northern agenda with oil. Its surprising how we waste money on refineries yet we still import fuel.

EVIDENCE OF WASTE
The government responsible for the construction of the kaduna refinery didn't tell nigerians the whole truth behind it's construction. During the 70s, a study was carried out on the feasibility of finding crude oil in the Chad basin. The study noted that the continental shelf of the Chad basin has striking similarities to the continental shelf of oil fields in saudi Arabia. Hypothetically,it was assumed that similar oil deposits should exist in both lake Chad and saudi arabia.Geologists should be able to relate better with this assumption.

THE GRAND AGENDA
The type of oil found in saudi Arabia is heavy crude(venezuela crude).In the mind of the north,they were hoping to find a similar kind of crude in the lake Chad basin(heavy crude),so they constructed a refinery that can refine this type of crude they were expectant about.
Among all the refineries in Nigeria,the kaduna refinery has been the least productive,reason being it operates with a technology capable of refining heavy crude, its well known that the type of crude Nigeria has is bonny light(light crude),so what is the reason behind the construction of this kaduna refinery that is not capable of refining the bonny light God gave Nigeria?
Looking at the kaduna refinery,one would observe that it is the only refinery in Nigeria with a special department for the production of other forms of petrol chemicals like plastics,pharmaceuticals,parrafinetc.
The Venezuela crude or heavy crude as the name implies contains major heavy chemical compounds with just a little percentage of distillates(fuel).on the other hand,the bonny light or light crude as the name implies is made up of mostly distllates(fuels)and just litte percentage of petrolchemicals.so the rationale behind the warri and portharcourt refinery not having a major department capable for refining petrol chemicals is because the bonny light is mostly composed of distillates,having such a department amounts to waste.

MY QUESTION
Why would the kaduna refinery operate on a technology that can only refine heavy crude rather than the bonny light nigeria is blessed with? By the way,the government still allocates funds to making sure of the farce that oil is present in the lake Chad basin.

You raised great points. My question outside of your findings is why would they have to drive 8-10 hrs to the south to lift crude oil, then drive another 8-10hrs back to the North just to have it refined? Even a fool knows that this is not financially viable rather a waste. Same manner they are trying to build a dry dock port in the North...same stupidity mentioned, move containers from Lagos to Kaduna, so that Ugochukwu and Obong will drive all the way through the desert to get to Kaduna to clear their goods while they have waterways in SS and SE.

Nigeria is really complicated.
