The Minister of State for Petroleum
Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, has said that the
Port Harcourt refinery will start production in
the next one week.
The Minister made the statement during
his Christmas visit to the plant in Alesa
Eleme in Rivers State on Friday.
He was there to oversee the repair work
done so far and hinted that the refinery
would be back to production in the next
one week.
The Port Harcourt refinery has a combined
production capacity of over five million
litres of PMS per day and the Minister said
that getting the nation’s refineries to work
at full capacity is the way to go.
According to Mr Kachikwu, the up-scaling
of the nation’s refineries ensures
transparency and subsequent reduction in
the importation of petroleum products that
would make scarcity remain in the past.
It was announced earlier in November
that the Kaduna Refinery and
Petrochemical Company had also resumed
production of petrol four months after it
was closed for repairs.
The Managing Director of the company,
Saidu Mohammed, who disclosed this to
Channels Television in Kaduna, said that
the plant, which was closed in September,
came back on stream ahead of the
December deadline for Nigeria’s four
refineries to return to full production.

good one...government wey go achieve big things, na once ppl dey know.

It's not about hurryingly starting up these refineries without a sustainable program to keep them functioning.. I just hope they are not doing all this to meet the so called deadline they set for themselves.

How come we aren't told what capacity these are refineries are producing at now so we can efficiently monitor the performance of these refineries..

But how come the past administration didn't know that government being fully involved in direct importation was the way out of this subsidy mess? Well, the govt was corrupt.. Let's hope this administration gets it right because if they don't, things will be worse..

Kachukwu and his team should watch out for saboteurs who might want to frustrate this effort by blowing up supply pipelines, etc. We do not want to hear stories like: government efforts are being truncated by vandals.

If all our refineries work at full capacity it will go a long way in addressing the mirage of problems being currently faced by the country.
