How To Improve Nigerian Systems by matrixme(m): 7:30am On Dec 27, 2015 |
Thank God for increasing Internet penetration, Nigerians are now coming online to bring issues worth considering into limelight. From videos of policemen receiving bribes to aircraft using ladder to disembark, it would seem as if nothing escapes the all-seeing eye of the Internet. Stories of actual events by real people, not the biased view of a journalist are very vital for creating a revolution around the world. What does this offer us? We should not just sit down and comment on these matters and go on with our lives. We ought to push for government to actually consider all these matters like as if their time has come. I wonder why agencies like NEMA only respond to natural disasters and other unfortunate situations, but they never bart an eye when people are using ladders to disembark on a plane. They would be responsible for providing succor to victims of the recent gas fire accident in the East, but not to the fire mitigation department of industrial gas plants around the country to prevent a similar situation in the future. This only suggests that we are only waiting for emergencies in this country and not allowing them to teach us a lesson. Take the United States for example, they have put systems in place to prevent the replication of 9/11 tragedy, but back home, Boko Haram still bombed Nyaya Park twice in a year and tragedy occurred at both times. I recommend government uses the Internet to better Nigerian systems that are a shadow of themselves. There should not just be immediate response to matters that come to limelight, but even remote responses that shows concern. For example, the Bauchi Airport incidence should make us inquire if Jos, Minna or Uyo airport has functional airstairs and even spare ones in case of emergency. Imagine again how a sport official collapsed in Ibadan stadium, we ought to consider the health response systems of stadiums around the country. I hope we use the Internet to strengthen Nigerian systems for the betterment of all. |
