I have to speak out on my unreserved admiration for President Buhari. This man's allegiance is to no one but the country Nigeria. He may not have taken us to the point of stability as a nation just yet and if we frankly expected the economy to boom overnight we are of most men to be pitied. After all these years of misrule? Nigeria will take time to heal..but with Buhari it feels to me like for once we have a leader who fears no one, a man who is not easily bullied and a man who seeks to right so many ills in society. As much as he is allowing Kanu to be held in detention, he is not holding back on his supposed northern brothers Dansuki and El Zakky. I think we are beginning to understand what he meant when he said "I belong to everyone and I belong to no one". I believe strongly that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Most Nigerians however have choosen not to be patient with him..they want magic, yet these same people were patient with the past government in the face of obvious misrule and mind boggling corruption. Buhari government is taking advantage of the low price of crude oil globally to remove subsidy. Yet some people are screaming foul. I see alot of updates asking whats the use of deregulating the oil sector when our refineries have not been revamped. Its surprising that most people do not know that our refineries have not been producing petrol products for months now because government has been working seriously on bringing them to the standard of a new one and some of them are set to start producing in January. As if it wasnt bad enough, I saw an update some time ago from someone lamenting federal government has banned ATM card. From the comments, it showed people thought we cant use ATM card again in the country and now have to return to the days of old. Its a pity really. The Government only banned the use of ATM card for foreign transaction. Plus it is a temporary measure meant to obstruct the flow of foreign exchange out of the country following the intense pressure on the naira in the past week, crossing an all time high of over N280 to the dollar.
Finally, was I the only one who read the rumuor of 1.7 billion naira for feeding allowance. Its puzzling that we can be so gullible. Most of the people who spread that rumuor did not even bother to simply google the budget proposal to verify for themselves and they were spreading rumuor as a fact, even asking Apc supporters to prove otherwise. Goodnews, it is trite that he who asserts must prove, but not in Nigeria obviously. For me, it was ok when I saw some laymen posting such unverified rumuor and criticising the government for no just cause but when I saw some learned colleagues doing same thats when I almost gave up hope for this country. I politely asked one of them to point out to me in the budget proposal where the said billions were alloted for feeding, thats when he confided in me that he has not seen or read the budget proposal. Good Lord, Its terrible really. Well, its 2016 soon, lets hope it will be better and fruitful for our dear country. For me it can only get better. Happy new year in advance to all.
