It's the same thing as a hard reset which to my knowledge has only benefits.

On the contrary ..pulling out your battery at least once in 1 to 2 weeks is advised.
I quote from a forum -

Battery pull -

- reset the memory to zero when the battery comes out.
- when the battery goes back in, the OS starts up cleanly and with all its modules neatly lined up.

As you use the phone, it runs programs and scripts and it shoves stuff into memory. Often these pre-allocate how much memory they think they will need. When the program finishes, it often does not de-allocate the memory so that the memory is now fragmented and other jobs cannot find coniguous memory in which to run. This ultimately results in a decreasing amount of memory and the end game is that the OS will start deleting non-essential stuff (to it) like your emails or call-log.

If you do a battery pull, keep it out for 30 secs to let the whole system die, and then check Options, Status immediately the OS has finished booting you will see that the File Free has a number. This is your treu free memory number.

End of quote.

I use a Samsung 5 from t-mobile and It's linked to a system that monitors the performance, sometimes the system gives me a notification to do a hard reset on the phone by pulling the battery when the phone is on.

My advice is - you can pull battery but just don't overdo things.

Even the research in motion that own blackberry approved 'hard start' when ever phone hang. So pulling out battery has little or no effect in phone memory

There's a small possibility of damaging ur device if u pull the battery without shutting down, u might be removing ur battery for 10 years without having issues and someone else night just do it once and have issue. That's why the warning says 'u may damage ur phone' and not 'u WILL damage ur phone'. Although the chances of damaging a mobile OS by removing the battery is very very small.

It is just like laptops, ps3 and ps4, the warning is there that u should always shut down properly before removing the power cord to avoid system corrupt or damage. I used my ps3 for 2 years before selling it and in those 2 yrs, I can't count the number of times I had power outage and yet the console still works every time I turn it on, I never experienced any damage or system corrupt. Someone else might be unlucky and get his system corrupt with just a single power outage. Same with ps4, I've had countless power outage but the thing still works.

So what do you want Curve7 and Bold 5 users to do? Those fones hang more than they ring.
alt+shift+del resets bb. When it hangs you just need that combination of keys.

Clearly, our uninformed OP hasn't heard or read or come across the folder called 'LOST.DIR' on android and latest bb OS10.

This is where ongoing software programs are saved for recovery in case a process is abruptly terminated (e.g pulling out battery or device disassembling by hitting the ground by accident). It is like a backup for unfinished programs on your device.

OP, please get acquainted with the current best practices. Provision has been made to store and recover files and programs abruptly stopped or terminated by accident; what's more? The device stores and saves everything you were doing on its own, doesn't need your help, it knows the device has stopped working and process/program has been terminated without finishing.

'Lost.dir' folder is found on every android and tablet and modern OS of blackberry phones, so we have nothing to worry about. Just restart your device, go to file manager and click on "lost.dir" to continue with the process or upgrade or whatever it is you were doing.

I'm sure most people here never knew the usefulness of LOST.DIR... It's a directory folder. Google is your friend.

So how does this affect my phone? I've been doing this (removing battery without switching off) since I started using phones cos it's faster and none has had any problem.

one thing I know for sure, the phones ware not made by empty-headed fools like the PC .since I have been using phones I have never as had a little fault to deal with but the first PC I bought brand new spoilt after just 4months and till date the engineer could fix nothing...I just wish the android could make apps to match up the PC ,who cares about windows coz they are just full of shit,if your hardware isn't spoiling then the software is corrupting. something will always spoil in PC if not now then soon enough!
