Again there is no Ile Ife empire never has been and never will be. There is only Oyo Empire that was built by Oranyiyan the father of Ajaka and Sango the first two Alaafins because Oranyiyan is not considered an Alaafin by some due to the fact he returned to Ile Ife to be buried. The Staff of Oranyiyan is a monument in Ile Ife that symbolizes they can call upon his warrior spirit anytime they need him. Oranyiyan was a giant, he was like Idi Amin, he was darkskin, stood over 7 feet tall, so did most of his sons and warriors around him. The Alaafin is the imperial majesty over all Yorubas, only the Alaafin has ruled over the largest segment of Yorubas, all at sometimes, most at others and now less because of the fall of Oyo. Did you know there was no palace in Ile Ife until his Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyemi I the first built one there? This is the grand father of the current Alaafin, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyemi III who is the living Sango. Sango is Nigeria's greatest King and Africa's most popular ancient king who worshiped in 42 countries as a deity of fire. Everywhere in Diaspora the Ooni of Ile Ife goes is where Sango has been because Sango is the foundation of all Yoruba Diaspora slave traditions. Sango was the only tradition that was kept by enslaved Yorubas because Sango is a war god and they saw him bringing victory over their enemies. Sango is also an empire builder and expander which isn't a trait of the Ooni. The Ooni is a chief custodian of culture and spirituality. A Yoruba would typically go to Ile Ife to see the origin of Oyo. Oyo emerged out of Ile Ife because of Oranyiyan not the Ooni. A Yoruba would go to Ile Ife for healing and pilgrimage. That's the role of the Ooni. The role of the Alaafin is supreme Oba of all Yorubas. Ase Love Sango 1 Share

Very interesting thread I must say. You all played your parts well. Point of correction or note: 1. There are more than seven Ife - Professor Wande Abimbola: the seven sites of Ife mentioned by Ifa are Ife Oodaye, the first and possibly the original one, Ife Nleere, Ife Ooyelagbomoro, Ife Wara, Otu Ife, Ife Oore and Ife Oojo. External threats made Ife moved to the present location. The fact that they brought their archaeological history dating back before the present Ife with them, does not mean Ife remained on the same site. Prof. Ade Obayemi also made this point. 2. Oduduwa was well known before Islam and Christianity or Jesus and Mohamed. If he was actually the rival of Obatala, Yoruba that is closer to the origin of man is older than Middle East. Omo-Awolowo does not mean you are the son of Awo. Omo-Oduduwa does not mean Okanbi or even Oranmiyan was the direct son of Oduduwa. Oduduwa could not have lived for centuries! 3. Omo-Igbo was right in comparing Ooni with the Pope and Alafin with the Emperor or all the Kings protecting Ooni. Alafin jealously prospected the cradle of Yoruba civilization and culture. Ooni has no Army but Oranmiyan. 4. Iwo Eleru where Yoruba artifacts were discovered is more than 10,000 B.C. Ife could have passed through it during relocation 5. Nigerians must stop relating to Egypt and Israel as their ancestors. It unscientific since the birth of man is in Africa, it is degrading because you want to claim people that made something out of themselves as if you have no history. 6. Rely on mythical history because they are trying to tell you something but only if and if they are supported by scientific evidence. Otherwise you will become a laughing stock. The story of Adam and Eve is the greatest joke of all, yet Christians and Muslims believe it as gospel truth. 3 Likes 1 Share |

nobaga: 1. There is a secret Ile Ife site yes, but no one discloses it. The Human race more then likely begin in the Rwenzori Mountain ranges and spread out from there. When Oduduwa came he was himself was over 7 feet tall and was of the Bachwezi of the Nile. The Bachwezi were giants because of their royal blood and they were born of supernatural powers. The Ibimanuka’s royal lineage is rooted in the Rwandan story of the fall to Earth of his ancestor, Muntu, the King of Heaven’s son. As the first human, he became the people’s first father and first ruler as he gloriously created Mankind and founded “The Descents’” dynasty. His spirit lives on through the Ibimanuka, who holds his authority not as a single king, but as the representation of the creation of life. This fall is from the Sky which is a solid object where Almighty Obatala descended upon the Earth dimension. Oduduwa was a warrior and so was his grandson Oranyiyan. The Igbo people who they came in contact with were an old branch of Africans who lived in the forest. Upon seeing these Giants Africans and their great natural powers they all were awestruck. Oduduwa had the staff of Queen Sheba, as she is called by Bible scholars, but she is Bilikisu Sungbo, the bloodline of Isis, the Queen Mother of the Bachwezi, the official ruler of Kush. Bilikisu Sungbo was over 7 feet tall and it is said she could fly. Many royal families had super powers and could fly! This is how Obatala came down from the sky along with other Irunmole. In East Africa there are spells that they do to help them fly. Many witches still use this spell and it was greatly used in Ancient times. The Alaafin is the supreme ruler. Sango is the King of the Earth if you understand the Yoruba Tree of Life. Orunmila is the highest Irunmole of light, Orunmila is wisdom, second to Olodumare, then comes the creator of the Orishas and human beings, Almighty Obatala the sky god. Then after Obatala comes Sango who is the Sun and king of the Earth. Then Ogun who is Geb/the Earth. The Ooni is a sacred chief who is entrusted by the bloodline of Oduduwa to represent them as the custodian. The Ooni is special because he is chosen by the Gods. But the Ooni is not Sango. Sango is the ruler of all Yoruba people. Sango is your highest ruling Oba on Earth. MayorofLagos: Because he loathes history being distorted. And I hate any that are going against Baba Sango. Yoruba people are indebted to the royal family of Oyo for giving you the richest culture in West Africa. The Oyo family is the direct line of Oduduwa. Oranyiyan appointed the Ooni as chief of the town and heritage keeper of Yoruba people. This because the Ooni is chosen by the Gods to be a sacred white chief. There is only one Ooni so its not a low position. Long live the Ooni. May the Gods bring Yoruba people closer in unity in these changing times. Ase Love Sango |

Olu317: You are not challenging what I posted because you admit the Ooni is appointed. To be appointed means there exists a higher authority to appoint the Ooni, which would be Oranmiyan the baba of the Alaafin Sango. I understand the clash between Oyo and Ife. Oyo is Islamic and Ife is Christian, neither religion belong in the picture. When are yall going to become fearless and claim Ifa as your official religion the way Benin Republic does with Vodoun? Baba Sango allow his wives to pray in the front row and people got upset. Without the Yoruba woman there is no civilization. Baba Sango has said the two faiths have long worn out their welcome. Corruption everywhere because of Islam and Christianity which is fueling this nonsense about who is the true ruler of all Yorubas. The Alaafin is the official ruler of Oyo Empire and there is no Ile Ife empire its just a town. Long live both the Alaafin of Oyo and the Ooni of Ile Ife. Ase Love Sango 1 Like |

KingSango:Didnt challenge your post? I mocked you because you read from afar. And you seek only what you wished existed which is not true. Oranmiyan ruled ILE IFE. So get your facts right. Obadio family are the ones that keeps the shrine of Odu'a. All Ooni are descendants of Odu'a apart from Osangangan (Obamakin). You are not too conversant with Yoruba history like I had mentioned but based your storyline on Samuel Ajayi Crowther epic tale. Otun is in present day Ekiti , the Oore of otun is the one that was part of the entourage that buried Odu'a and he remain the only one that announces the death of all Ooni. So go ask these people and stop distortion. ILE IFE, was not meant to become an empire because it was the spiritual home from where the present day Yoruba settled down before new migration. Oranmiyan founded oyo and he was the first Alaafin as you claimed. In fact the is no controversies over such and he was the fifth or sixth Ooni of IFE. His descendant was, Ooni Lajamisan ,whose descendants rules ILE IFE and till today, they are still in charge .. And who told you many Oonis weren't warriors or spiritual sound before being made Ooni ? Go to ILE IFE, and , you will find many stories to nullify your view. 1 Like |

Yeye dey smell....... a clown claiming superiority of his Oba over other Obas in a "collapsed empire" in Yorubaland.......Ooni claiming that he wasn't in superiority Battle with any oba just demonstrate his height of maturity ( and doesn't translate to accepting that any stool is greater than Ooni stool in Yorubaland). The problem I have with these 'oyonized' historians is that they always equate Samuel Johnsons account to Yoruba account in lieu of being called Oyo account. 1 Like |

Femolacaster: Oya state is the pace setter state of the 36 states. Sango through his wife Olori Sango is head of the fearsome Ogboni. Mr. Ganyi Adams is the Baloogun of the army of Oyo Empire appointed by the Alaafin. The town of Kuso the high priest of Sango is head of a town full of Sango warlords. The Alaafin shares the chairman seat with two other heads of Nigerian empires, neither one is the Ooni, in fact they will not bow to the Ooni because of lineage. But truthfully everyone respects Baba Sango as the official head. Sango isn't just Nigeria's greatest king and West Africa's but greatest in all of African history. Sango is the most worship king in Diaspora and is the sole reason people in Diaspora know Yoruba traditions and know of the Ooni. When you speak of the Ooni, you speak of him as if the Ooni is Oduduwa. Just because he resides over the town of Ile Ife. Oduduwa stood over 7 feet tall, he was a warrior, Oduduwa and his warriors conquered Ile Ife. And you think I got that from Sam too? You funny. The Ooni is not a warrior and has never lead warriors into battle. The Ooni wasn't of the maternal side of African royalty because the Ooni maternal line was a concubine of, his mother was not prior royalty, Oduduwa, she was divined to be a sacrifice but was discovered to be with child. The child was chosen by the Gods to be the Ooni. The Ooni was a final solution to a crisis, who would preserve the sacred town of Ile Ife while the true sons of Oduduwa went forward to build each his own kingdom. Oranmiyan was exceptional he was the greatest warrior among his brothers, he forged them all into an empire centered around Oyo City. It was Oranmiyan's son Sango who made Oyo expand and he is the paternal ancestor of all Alaafins. Oyotunji, means, "OYO RISES AGAIN". You sir, need to work on your faith as an Yoruba. Get off your knees worshiping that White Jesus. The Ooni is a sacred priest in all white and Sango is a bloody red Emperor. Ase Love Sango |

Olu317: The Ooni is a sacred White chief whose bloodline was and is chosen by the Irunmole. Obas go to the Ooni to get their beads because Ile Ife is the sacred center of Yoruba culture. The Ooni was assigned as an Eunuch warrior and priest who life was to be pure. Eunuch were used even in China by emperors such as Oranmiyan who founded Oyo Empire. Eunuch were always loyal to the emperor when sometimes family wanted him deposed. Oranmiyan, the baba of Sango Alaafins, assigned the Ooni and his family sacred guardians of Ile Ife. Did you realize how many times Oyo was attacked, and sometimes burned to the ground? The price of Oyo being the capital of Oyo Empire and command center. You refer to Oranmiyan as an Ooni but he was no Eunuch he fathered children, two were Alaafins. The Ooni is over the sacred town of Ile Ife and the Alaafin is over the empire of Oyo. I can research the list of West African empires but I know there is no Ife Empire, no Oduduwa nation, and no Yoruba empire. There is an Akan empire, Mali Empire, a Dahomey empire and an Oyo empire. And last I checked the Alaafin is still the owner of the palace in Oyo. Long live the Alaafin Baba Sango Ayiawokabayesi Sango. Ase ase ase ooo |

Olu317: Its understood that different regions worship exclusively a specific Irunmole. I know certain Yoruba kingdoms owe their primary allegiance to Ogun and this was connected to the trade of blacksmiths. In towns where weaver guilds dominate their Goddess was Osun. And Ife, which is the spiritual center, the favorite Orisha is Obatala and his servant Osochi. And Jakuta is worshiped over Sango as the God of lightning and thunder. Yet you are wrong in your conclusions not your facts. First, how come you call yourself Yoruba since obviously you are not from Oyo? How come you are not an Ifeuba? Yoruba means and Oyo person subject to the Oba of Oyo. And yet all Yorubas bear the name of the empire of Oyo not Ife. Oyo is the empire and Ife is the root in West Africa. Obatala came from the sky not us. Obatala created us, all human beings. Benin does worship Sango I know because I study Vodoun. Sango is the God of fire not just lightning and thunder like Jakuta. Haiti also worships Sango. The Haitian revolution was successful because of Ogun. Ogun is good at defense but not offense so Haiti suffers from lack of expansion. Sango is an empire builder and aggressive war God. Haiti tried to get in the African Union and was denied. Also Haiti is stuck speaking French in a region dominated by English. Without Sango at the helm there is no growth. Ogun is a King but Sango is the emperor. Obatala does not defend so Ile Ife needs Oyo to defend it. This is how come you call yourself Yoruba and the Alaafin is your emperor. All the traditional kings bow to Baba Sango the Alaafin. Sango is Nigeria's greatest king and the most famous African king. People respect various kings, pharaohs and even Shaka Zulu but Sango is the only African king worshiped today as a God in 42 nations outside of Nigeria. Ase Love Sango |

I've told you before you have your facts right but your conclusions are all wrong. We know Old Oyo was burned, this is how come Oranyiman kept Oyo as the political capital and not Ile Ife. Its because in war the enemy will attack the capital city as a strategic move. All capital cities come under attack in all out war between nations and kingdoms. So Oranyiman was extremely wise to foresee this event far into the future and set Ife Ife up as a sacred town so as to avoid this. Yet don't you know that Ile Ife doesn't belong to Oranyiman's bloodline? Oduduwa isn't origin to the area he came from East Africa bloodline of the royal Bachwezi. Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, Oba Frederick Obateru Akinruntan family owned Ile Ife and this is according also to Baba Sango the Alaafin. Yet the Alaafin is still King of all Yorubas because of the history of Sango. No Nigerian who loves Nigeria must be denouncing Sango, he was is Africa's greatest king and a Nigerian legend.
