WAY FORWARD ON HIJAB ISSUE AND TERRORISM.

(DIRECTED TO NIGERIAN AUTHORITIES, NIGERIANS and BEYOND)

Resolution of MCAN GENERAL COUNCIL and other ISLAMIC BODIES

Date of Release: Sun, 10th of Jan, 2016 which corresponds to (29th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, 1437AH),

In the Name of Allah the Beneficent the Merciful

Alhamdulillah (Praise belongs to Almighty Allah (God)). Representatives of Muslim Corpers’ Association of Nigeria (MCAN) at all levels (National, Zonal and State) gathered at the Conference Room of Abuja Central Mosque yesterday ; Saturday,9th of January ,2016 which corresponded to (28th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, 1437 AH) to hold an all day long meeting on several Islamic related issues in the country. Today, Sunday,10th of January ,2016 which corresponds to (29th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, 1437AH), another phase of the meeting was held by MCAN, represented by the National Amir; Abdullah Imam Ishaq and the Secretary General; Abdulaslam Adam Olalekan and leaders of other Islamic bodies such as (Muslim Student Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Jamaa'atu Nasrul Islam (JNI), Muslim Professionals in Dawah (MPD), Dawah Institute of Nigeria (DIN), Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria (FOMWAN), Abuja Muslim Forum (AMF) and National Council of Muslim Youths Organization in Nigeria (NACOMYO)) in regards to Islamic affairs in Nigeria.

A resolution was made at both meetings to condemn any attempt to Ban Hijab in future and Recommendations were also suggested to the respective Authorities within the country on the way forward with regards to TERRORISM and HIJAB. The recommendations are as follow;

TOWARDS ENDING TERRORISM
The Federal Government (FG) should create a Religious Affairs Commission or Office of the Special Assistant/Adviser to the president on religious matters;
• This commission or office should supervise the activities of religious groups across the country and report to the presidency. This will provide a first-hand information for tackling terrorist groups from cradle.
• The commission should be in the right position to advice the presidency in taking actions or making comments that affect religious institutions.
• The commission or office should also carry out programs that will educate and enlighten vulnerable individuals to immune them from the corrupt ideology of destructive agents.


TOWARDS CORRECTING HIJAB MISCONCEPTIONS:
It is no News that the presidency and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have dissociated themselves from the media purported ban on HIJAB. Therefore writers of such false News (Ban of HIJAB) are identified as potential agents for destroying the peaceful coexistence of Nigerians. Thus, the following are further recommended;
• Total use of investigative journalism and legal prosecution of journalist who report false, misleading or distorted News which may amount to disruption of public peace, orderliness and a selective blackmail of the integrity of the present government.
• All Muslim Sisters putting on Hijab should humbly submit to security checks , just as every other Nigerians.
• However, as a follow up to the immediate point, Security personnel should refrain from harassing Muslim Sisters who are adorned in HIJAB as it amounts to Human Right Violation. Checks should also be conducted in accordance with morals of the Land (Female Should Search Females).
• The NYSC as a scheme is for promoting NATIONAL INTEGRATION AND UNITY, it should therefore fully recognize all religious values such as HIJAB, Worship Time/ Period and Festivities. If not so, we humbly appeal for the review of the NYSC By laws.
• NYSC and Tertiary Education institutions should be an avenue where people acquire morality and discipline, not promiscuity and immorality. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) kit (some transparent White Tops and very Short Nickers) tends to promote immorality and even prostitution or Sex Trade, we therefore seek redress.

We appreciate the effort of president Muhamadu Buhari for his visionary leadership style as we are confident that he will lead the country to the promise land and also, the Director General (DG) NYSC Brigadier General Bamidele Olawunmi Johnson for his fatherly love , care and above all approving hijab up to the knee level and a three quarter trouser. We therefore urge all prospective and serving Corps Members to strictly adhere to the progress recorded, be good citizens of Nigeria and above all, a true representative of their respective Faith.
