Igbo traders in the demolished Owonifari market, Oshodi, have continued to claim that the demolition of the market was part of the plan targeted at getting rid of Igbo in Lagos.
In a chat with Tribune Online, some of the traders failed to see any rationale behind the demolition in spite the state government's repeated claim that the exercise was carried out to give room for more infrastructural development on that axis.
The claim by the traders came barely 24 hours after traders under the Igbo Traders Congress demanded for N20 billion from the Lagos State government for properties lost to the demolition.

A trader, who identified himself simply as Uchena, bemoaned the fact that in recent times, the state government and other leaders in the state had been showing some signs it had something against the Igbo.

"Last year, an Oba said Igbo would drown if they didn't vote for APC. Months earlier, former Governor Fashola sent many Igbo back to the east without any reason, now we have this demolition. All these are clear indications we are being deliberately hunted down," he said.
The claim of N20bn damages by the traders came hours when a group of Igbo claimed that they were being deliberately dealt with by the government.

The traders said the state government breached the court injunction against demolition, saying the body was heading to court to seek compensation against the goods lost to the demolition.

He said the markets accommodated about 5,000 traders while the government only provided slots for 600 traders at the new Isopakodowo market.

is this really the best you could come up with? I wonder why people don'tuse their brain in issues that don't affect them. How can someone lose his means of livelihood and the best you could come up with is this BS.

I'm not in a position to know if this people were warned beforehand or not, though some people have already taken the side of government seeing that the victims are the troublesome Igbos. I think Igbos should really start looking eastwards to avoid people toying with their livelihood when they deem fit.

No, they should stay put in SW and North, learn how to speak Yoruba more than Yorubas, and Hausa more than Hausas.

They should be singing of phantom Nigeria unity, and keep dancing to Kumbayaya until all is well.

It is silly to seek for dissolution of Nigeria, the wisest thing should be to embrace Nigeria while on their knees and even in the midst of hatred and envy.

They should just learn to be humble and accept their place in the grand scheme of things, they should learn to sacrifice all, including their lives and life savings and investments at the altar of Nigerian unity.

To keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done.

God bless Nigeria.
