Leonardo DiCaprio, who happens to be one of my favorites actors and mentors in Hollywood won the golden globe award for the best actor category.

No surprise he is again nominated for the best actor category in the Oscars 2016 award.

Alejandro González Iñárritu’s epic weastern The Revenant is leading the race for the 2016 Oscars with 12 nominations. Although not my favorite film in 2015 but you will agree with that this epic movie, made airways when it hit our screens.

The film picked up nominations in half the possible categories, including best picture, as well as a surprise nod for Tom Hardy though not surprising to me, not after the way he killed the movie Mad Max: Fury Road, so to me he deserves the nomination as best supporting actor for a total of 12 nominations.

Another gritty tale of outback survival – Australian apocalypse hit Mad Max: Fury Road – picked up 10 nominations to take it into second place. Meanwhile a third populist story about a man battling harsh nature and hostile adversaries - sci-fi yarn The Martian – came in third with 10.

Steven Spielberg, the man that did Bridge of Spies, was not shortlisted in the director's shortlist, while George Miller made it as a surprise nod for Mad Max: Fury Road, as did Lenny Abrahamson for Room. Nevertheless, Martian director Ridley Scott was not nominated, despite concerted efforts by the film’s star, Matt Damon (who is up for best actor).

This year, no black actor was nominated.
