These are the reasons why I beg to
disagree the notion of going to school

1. Most of what is being taught in our
Nigerian universities today are out-dated.
You think I’m bluffing? When you go for
your next lecture, ask your professor to
show you his lecture notes (don’t say I
sent you oh!) and you’ll quickly notice
that the notes are worn out with age and
have turned brown indicating that the
same information has been dished out to
not less than 15 previous sets when we
live in a world that is rapidly changing.
2. The labor market and the real world
emphasizes soft skills and experience about
educational qualifications.
The world has changed and while a
certificate might be a prerequisite for
getting a job in a lot of fields like
Medicine. It does not guarantee you a
job. I’ll leave the experts with the
outrageous statistics to tell you more.
If a certificate is akin to employment,
why are most Nigerian graduates
roaming the streets jobless?Even if you are visit any job website you’ll notice
that more than 70% of available jobs
require minimum of three years
experience.
If our Nigerian schools gave you all you
need, then why should an employer seek
additional experience?
Not to talk of the fact that schools do not
teach practical soft skills like
interpersonal skills which are highly
sought for in the labor market.

3. A good number of successful and
renowned people in the world today were
either drop-outs or never went to college.
The likes of Bill Gates, Thomas Edison,
Mark Zuckerberg, Richard Branson,
Michael Dell, Henry Ford, Steve Jobs, Orji
Uzo Kalu, and many more top the list .
We sing their quotes everyday in our
motivational talks but we forget that
these daring men valued education more
than they did school.
