Cool Stuffs About The Pentantonix Acappella Group by Nobody: 2:22am On Jan 18, 2016
Pentatonix is an American a cappella group consisting of five vocalists originating from Arlington, Texas. The members in this group are Avi Kaplan, Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Mitch Grassi.

1. Three were long time friends: Pentatonix began with three friends who grew up together and were schoolmates at Martin High School in Arlington, Texas: Kirstin "Kirstie" Maldonado (born May 16, 1992), Mitch Grassi (born July 24, 1992), and Scott Hoying (born September 17, 1991). Hearing of a local radio show hosting a competition to meet the cast of Glee, they arranged a trio version of "Telephone" and sent it in. Although they did not end up winning the competition, it sparked attention around their school, where the group began performing. After their version of "Telephone" by Lady Gaga gained attention on YouTube, they continued performing.

2. Name had to a relationship with their number: Pentatonix, as suggested by Scott Hoying, is named after the pentatonic scale, a musical scale or mode with five notes per octave. The group believed that the scale's five notes matched their membership. The group replaced the last letter with an 'x' to make it more appealing. The quintet derives its influences from pop, dubstep, electro, reggae, hip hop, and classical music.

3. Have been featured in movies: Pentatonix had a cameo role in Pitch Perfect 2, released in May 2015, as the Canadian team competing against the Barden Bellas.[101] Pentatonix also released a documentary about the group's journey titled "On My Way Home" (based off the original song of the same name from PTX, Vol. III and the group's 2015 tour) on June 18, 2015, which was promoted on social media through the hashtag #OnMyWayHomeProject.

4. Their motto? No instruments, no problem!
The group agrees on one thing: Music is music. "We just want it to be like any other band," said Grassi. "We want to be a successful band that creates music, has supporters and plays on the radio. Just because we're a cappella, I don't feel like, well obviously it is different, but we are still making music. We're just doing it without instruments... we don't want to sell ourselves short, either, because we're all so individually talented."

5. Their beatbox is a Nigerian:
Kevin "K.O." Olusola (born October 5, 1988) is an American cellist, beatboxer, saxophonist, pianist, songwriter, producer, and singer. Olusola is best known as the beatboxer of the widely acclaimed vocal band Pentatonix. Olusola was born in Owensboro Kentucky , to Nigerian-born Oluwole Olusola, a psychiatrist, and Grenadian-born Curline Paul, a nurse. At that time, his father had just come from medical school in Nigeria and internship in Trinidad and Tobago to Loma Linda University (a Seventh-day Adventist institution), where he met his wife while she was doing her MPH
6. Some are gay: Also, their 2015 Christmas album "That's Christmas To Me" has been blowing up iTunes. Two of Pentatonix's members, Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi, are openly gay, and the group vocally supports the LGBT community. We're super excited to see what's next for Pentatonix!
