460 students is even small compared to some other institution in which almost half of those admitted were withdrawn after their first year owing to poor academic performance

I saw biology 101 of physics student last semester in unical, it was a gender test "F9". out of 66 students only 6 passed(4 C's and 2 E's)
imagine Bio101? common secondary school biology? unical for that matter? NUC needs to look into this. If bio101 can be like that for them, what about PHY101 or CHM111 ?

What do you expect when admission is based on quota system not merit. Invariably 460 admission slots wasted.

This is serious..but rule is rule!
When they are suppose to face their primary assignment... the very reason they are in the university, they will not...They will rather engaged in partying, all round time fellowship and other religious activities, addictions to social media sites (Facebook, 2go), forums (maybe Nairaland grin), whatsapp and the likes...
This should serve as a lesson for others ... Seun, lalasticlala please your attention needed
so student should not go to church again just because dey want to read. Dearies God ooo #Introvert, ur attention is needed.

go n check and ask only like 40% will be above in the whole 100 level set.
At the University back then...40% is a pass mark. I don't think that has changed.
Stop protecting the interests of those that failed...there will always be one thousand and one excuses on why students fail! Condemn this act in its entirety... Failure is bad...no two ways about it. Those affected if should brace up in their future endeavors. Before a student is asked to withdraw ...he/she will be on probation..a lifeline to make things right...Failing afterwards shows they just can't cope. That's the simple truth..though bitter!

Imagine, they could not make a 1.5 CGPA ?? this is what happens when dullards get into school through backdoors/runs or whatever and those that merit the admission are not given the admission because they don't have money to bribe, they don't know either the registrar or DVC, Very shameful. The brilliant ones are there languishing at home, writing jamb, post-ume every year. I think NUC should investigate how these students got admission in the first place. If the school has erred in the admission policy, they should be sanctioned.

And again the issue of Jamb exam result expiring after one year or academic section should also be visited, at least the result should last for 3years.

You know, about 1.6million or more students keep writing Jamb every year and the bitter truth is tertiary institutions in Nigeria cannot even accommodate half the number of those that sit for Jamb every year.

When Jamb brought out their last admission policy, it was indeed a welcome development but tutorial centers across Nigeria kicked against it because if it stands, the amount of student that comes for tutorials will drop and that would result to a drastic fall in their income. I think the new minister of education needs to revisit/revise that policy. Whereby candidate with high scores if not taken by their university of choice, Jamb as the authority to send/post them to another school. The addition to the policy should state "Posting them to another school should be made optional when filling Jamb form online"

The problem was students being posted to 'expensive' private schools.
How many parents can afford the crazy fees? (by Nigerian standards of course).

The biggest problem is the corruption in admission processes in these public schools.
You just feel like crying when you can't even get Mathematics or Statistics with 72% while lower scores (50+ ) get engineering and other top courses you originally applied for.

Smh!

bros thank you,u mentioned probation but in this case no probation,,, they were withdrawn at the end of the 100 level session,, that's bad seriously,,,, very wrong...this is a country where things are not fine by you withdrawing dem now to start again, how will it be? it will make admission more tough for the new SSCE graduate ,,this is not progress but retrogression in the education sector....
