The "World Economic Forum" is a non-governmental organisation created in 1971 at Geneva, Switzerland committed to improving the state of the world. The Forum engages the foremost political, business and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas. This year’s annual meeting holds on 20th-23rd January, 2016 at Davos Klosters, Switzerland.
The theme of this year’s forum is "The Fourth Industrial Revolution". There are various sessions during the forum whereby issues that pertain to the world which are security, energy, climate, arts & culture, health, human capital, gender parity, global finance and global economy in other to move the world forward.
Prominent Nigerians and Africans who would be speaking at the Forum are Vice President Yemi Osinbanjo, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, President Paul Kagame, Akinwunmi Adesina (President of Africa Development Bank) , Nigerian Business Mogul Tony Elumelu, President Jacob Zuma, Prime minister Hailemariam Desalegn etc.
Vice President Osibanjo was one of the speakers at the just concluded "Africa's Next Challenge" session. Other speakers on the panel are Hans Vestberg (CEO of Ericsson), Akinwunmi Adesinav( President of AfDB), Paul Kagame(Rwandan Presdient),vHailemariam Desalegn ( Prime minister of Ethiopia) and the session was moderated by Bronwyn Nielsen(Chief Editor of CNBC Africa).
The vice president got there late due to security issues at the airport but joined the discussion at mid-way. When asked as regards the issue of Bokoharam and corruption in Nigeria, he said Bokoharam has been tackled by the military but the major challenge is suicide bombing. He also said "developing systems that work with no bottle necks will reduced corruption" in Nigeria. He also spoke on the impact of the falling oil price on the economy but shows some advantage on the low oil price.
Akinwunmi Adesina also spoke on a hope for universal electricity in Africa by 2025 and that the AfDB will invest $12Billion in Africa to solve Africa's energy problem. He also said that no country has developed by focusing on primary commodities and spoke on the need to invest in Africa.
