I was reading on North Korea and i stumbled upon this information. I think other nairalanders might find these surprising too especially number 11.

1. Watching Television
Citizens are forbidden to watch anything other than state propaganda. In the last 2 years, North Korea has publicly executed around 130 people for watching South Korean TV.

2. Practicing Religion
Atheist North Korea has ‘Freedom of Religious Belief’. Inspite of that, they’ve tortured thousands for their faiths. In 2013, Eighty Christians were publicly executed in a stadium just for owning bibles.

3. Drinking Alcohol
North Koreans can only drink on special holidays and students face interrogation if they are caught. In 2012, a Military Officer was killed with a mortar for drinking during the 100 day mourning period of Kim Jong-Il.

4. Driving
Citizens are banned from freely moving around their country – There is less than 1 car per 1000 people. However, Senior Officials are chauffeured in extravagant cars to flaunt their political commitment.

5. Playing Music
All music in North Korea is controlled by the state and must glorify the regime. Decadent Western Music is a ‘Crime against the State’ and playing it will get you killed

6. International Calls
Communication with the outside world will incur the Death Penalty. In 2013, a North Korean man was publicly executed by firing squad for calling his friend in South Korea.

7. Talking About The Government
Citizens caught criticizing or discussing the North Korean Government will be sent to ‘Re-Education Camps’.

Prisoners will endure hard labor and ideological indoctrination to relearn the values of the regime.

8. Travelling Abroad
The Ultimate Crime is for a North Korean to leave their Country.
Defectors flee to China for Refuge but if they are caught by authorities they ll be forcibly returned for execution.

9. Pornography
Viewing or Selling Pornography can lead to the death penalty. In 2013, Leader Kim Jong-Un had his Ex-Girlfriend executed in front of her family for making a sex tape.

11. Wearing Jeans Is Illegal:
Blue jeans are not allowed in North Korea as denims symbolizes the enemy United States of America.

Nairalanders who are active in this politics section won't last there a day. grin

Meanwhile I'm not surprised at all.. Their own dey their body.

Just this morning I read in the papers about a South Korean man who was acquitted by the court for following North Korea on Twitter. He was sued because he followed N. Korea on Twitter. It was termed "anti patriotic" hence he was charged to court. He was however acquitted because he hadn't retweeted anything yet. But he was still found guilty again because he made comments about them on his blog. WTF!!!

Once I heard that Kim Jong of a boy declared that all the males in his country cut the same kind of hair as his. Just imagine. grin grin

Buhari will definitely envy kim's tyrannic leash on(Buhari) north koreans. Unfortunately he rules a multiethnic country with different shades of traditional political beliefs. Any attempt to autocratize will be seen as a plan to dominate forever and there will be resistance and rightfully so.

It is not a lie.

You cannot dispute anything the op said.

I've seen a documentary done within the country too.

They listen to horrible sounds, blasting everywhere, especially in public.

NO cars, Public transport.

No foreign TV, only top scientists have access to limited Internet. They watch what the government wants them to watch.

A lot of other horrible things, I can't remember. They aren't suffering, but they are caged.
