An acid is a substance which produces hydrogen ions (or protons) as the only positive. Ion when dissolved in water. There are two classes of acids • Organic Acids, Examples ÷ • Ethanoic acid (from vinegar) • Fatty acid (from fats and oil) • Citric acid(from lime and lemon) • Ascorbic acid (vitamin C)(from oranges) • Lactic acid (from milk) • Amino acids (From proteins). • Inorganic Acids, Examples ÷ Tetraoxosulphate (vi) acid ( H2SO4) • Trioxonitrate(v) acid ( HNO3) • Hydrochloric acid (HCl). Ionization is when an acid dissolve in water to produce hydrogen ions, as the only positive ions, together with the corresponding negative ions. Strong acids ionize completely in water to give. Hydrogen ions and anions. The concentration of hydrogen ions is very high in such acid solutions. Examples.
