I have refrained from commenting on this viewing centers-Hitv palaver simply because to me Hitv seems to have run out of reasonable business ideas.

Let them close down all the viewing centers in Nigeria, that will not guarantee them of the return of so many subscribers that have left the platform.

Hitv failed to realized that football alone does not equate success in the pay-tv business.

Honestly after moving over to Dstv, I don't think having the exclusivity of all premium football tournaments will drive me back to Hitv.

For me, I prefer education and entertainment channels to football, and Dstv have these channels and so much more.

If they succeds to lock up all the viewing centers, I will stay in my house and enjoy the little ones available on Dstv.

Thats why we have greedy individuals(wolves in sheep clothing) coming to hoodwink ppl with promises of cheap alternatives just to turn around and become monsters.

Refrain from subscribing and force their hands. You wont die for not watching EPL. They will realise it soon enough and revert to 4k 5 subscription.

Besides, if they dont take time, they will lose that which they think they have from next year(EPL)

No mind Toyin Subair and him Hitv. They came like sheep but we didnt know they were ravenous wolves.

He came claiming that he was out to let everyone in Niaja watch Paytv at an affordable rate. Hoodwinked ppl into signing up for hitv and then removed his covering for us to see his true nature.

They wan tell us how 6k per month for the nonsense they are providing is cheap and affordable.

I have space constraints and i will definitely explore the Nilesat, ETV etc that the guys in the FTA have been enjoying when i sort that out.

Though I may not need it by then cause DSTV may take the EPL back from HITV next season.

The content on dstv, am enjoying and when the Laliga and serie A starts from next week, i wont be missing the EPL that much

Presently, they are not showing it in Lagos. But they are in control of all the major cities in the East. Recently, while they were addressing us in thier Owerri office, they said they have made neccessary arrangement to bid for the next EPL for thier TREND TV DISH going by the amount they have made from showing all these matches. Also, they have taken Hitv to court which hopefully they are getting better judgement as regards showing matches in other western states. My man, from information we got from their management, Hitv is just exploiting guys in lagos and some other parts of this coutry which they (CTL) IS about to cover. Based on the good reasons they have agaist HITV, they (Hitv) or (Hithiefs) can not stop them from showing those matches, no special arrangement with them (hithief) and no kobo will be paid to them. Tomorrow and next is another match day, let them try us.

I have no problem with encouraging competition especially in the Nigerian pay-TV market. As HiTV have won the bid for the EPL, UCL and other leagues that's great. However I am worried that current DStv subscribers will have no access to these leagues in the volume required.

MY QUESTION IS THIS: Is there some kind of a system where DStv pays for sports content from HiTV.? In other words, for an extra fee can DStv subscribers access Hi Soccer and Hi Sports on the DStv bouquet? This way HiTV still gets it money (and subscribers) and is still platform of choice for sports but it doesn't alienate a large section of the market who already have DStv. You don't want a situation where a custimer has TWO dishes and TWO decoders. It's not right.

In countries around the world this works and make life for the consumer easier while still encouraging competition. An example in the UK is where Virgin Media pays for content from Sky which owns the rights for most EPL and UCL matches:

It is just a matter of time, HITV will surely pack up! 50% increase without justification is criminal, to say the least.

Many Nigeria Pay-TV subscribers thought DSTV was ripping them off, no wonder HITV was given a rousing welcome. The same people whom we were exorcising demons with suddenly turned and accused us of being demons. We now know better! HITV is even attempting to do what DSTV never considered necessary over several years - i.e. trying to coerce viewing centres to pay extra money.

Indeed the battle line is drawn and obviously HITV will be the sore loser at the end. I join my voice in condemning the insensitivity and dubiousness of HITV to its subscribers. Toy-in Sub-air should listen to the voice of reasoning before it's too late.
