Zika virus is a mosquito-borne disease suspected of causing serious birth defects and is expected to spread to all countries in the Americas except Canada and Chile, According to the World Health Organization. The Aedes aegypti mosquito, which carries Zika is already present in 21 of the 55 countries across the Americas.
Health officials in El Salvador are urging women to reconsider getting pregnant until 2018, all in an effort to halt surge of birth defects which is suspected to stem from the mosquito-borne disease.
