You all are just being naive and ignorant. You will agree with me that idea is worth nothing, Execution is what matters.
GEJ executed this project and thats quite simple and we must appreciate him for that.

You can go argue with your grandmother.

Despite the oil boom experienced in the last administration, which administration said Nigerian cannot afford new train because we are not America in March, 2015? In your myopic thinking, it is GEJ that executed it right? Click here for an eye-opener - http://gistpartner.com/2015/03/09/nigeria-is-not-americawe-cannot-afford-new-trains-doyin-okupe/

Spanning from the Obasanjo administration to present, an active and efficient rail system has been marred for a long time by inefficiencies and corruption on a massive scale. As since the contract was awarded in the Obasanjo era, there has not been any positive move to see its fruition.

That it took the grace of APC to complete the first ever standard gauge rail line, started by PDP in its 16 years of national mismanagement is not a cause for any glory to GEJ in particular or PDP in general.

Please tell us how APC paid for it since-

- they met an empty treasury hence they could not deliver their campaign promises?
- they have no budget of their own up till now?

Thanks.

We need to thank Buhari for not CANCELING this as he usually does although I suspect Jonathan had advanced the work beyond cancellation.

Splashme:
The first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, on Tuesday, said that the cancellation of the Lagos metroline project in 1985 was a major mistake and disservice to many Nigerians.

Jakande spoke in Lagos during the launch of a book which chronicled his life in politics and journalism.

The book, entitled, ‘Jakande: Leadership in Action’ is written by Dr. Bola Olaosebikan, who told the audience at the event that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was not responsible for the cancellation of the project.

Jakande said, “Reflecting on the metroline project, I think it is a major disservice to many Nigerians. Imagine how many people would have benefitted. It would have made life easier and changed the face of transport in Lagos. Whoever cancelled it or gave the advice towards its cancellation didn’t do right.”

The former governor asked Nigerians not to vote for unserious leaders in the coming polls, saying the elections presented Nigerians with a good opportunity that should not be squandered.

Expressing the hope that Nigeria would soon overcome its developmental challenges, Jakande said hope would be actualised faster if credible people emerged as leaders in the next dispensation.

He said, “This book comes at a very auspicious time in Nigeria’s history as we need leaders who can act. We need leaders who would not compromise the standards of good governance. God has blessed this nation the most in Africa, although we have not reached where we should be; with the right leaders, Nigeria would overcome its challenges.”

Within the same 16 years that you people said PDP 'destroyed' Nigeria.

When it suits you - when there's no where to hide - you cherry pick shamelessly.

We thank the Almighty God that it's too late for Buhari to CANCEL this one as is his practice. It's too late for Fashola to 'renegotiate' the contract and send everything into a tailspin - Lagos - Ibadan expressway reconstruction project has been 'arrested' as we speak - justified by a 'lengthy epistle' few days ago.

This rail project was awarded by Obasanjo's government together with the contract for construction of Lagos-Kano and Port Harcourt-Maiduguri standard gauge. Funding arrangements was a mixture of Chinese loan and payment by Nigeria with oil.

Yaradua that succeeded Obasanjo claimed the contracts did not follow 'due process' then. He canceled the east and west corridors but somehow left Abuja-Kaduna. (Yaradua employed the 'rule of law' to cancel many infrastructure projects in those days. He was cheered on by the 'crowd' nevertheless.)

Jonathan adopted (continued) the project alongside the rehabilitation of the old east west corridors narrow gauge upon his assumption of office, which he delivered.

We have heard the 'change people' said nothing was achieved for sixteen years. It wasn't until recently that Amaechi 'knew' there's a functional rail transportation in Nigeria.

We thank God they are commissioning what they claimed never existed.

Infrastructure decay started when Buhari forcefully took over the government of Shehu Shagari in 1983. Many of the projects that would have given Nigeria a leap into a more modernized/industrial society were 'ARRESTED' or CANCELED by Buhari - Ajaokuta Steel, Lagos metro-rail, Nigeria railway etc.

To Buhari, every big project is corruption, regardless of the value to the society.

I use kerosine occationally and I can tell you that for over six years now 95% of the masses of this country of which I am one have been buying kerosine way above 100 naira/litre, though I don't know about you believe me no 50 naira/ltr kerosine anywhere in Nigeria before now.

Actually if GEJ had remained ,the naira would still be where it is at now.....because of the fall in international oil prices. Infact the current fall in the Naira started during the last year of GEJ's regime

Also....we were still miles away from being a strong agric power....we had only gotten up to No 5 in cocoa production,we are still far behind Malaysia and indonesia in palm oil producition(the two of them produce 80% of the palm oil in the world....we used to be that country forty years ago)....and groundnut and cotton are still not there. Then there is the fact that most of the farming done in Nigeria is still done on small scale subsistence farming....we do not have enough large scale farms. And how is Nigeria doing in animal husbandry?

Which number are we now in cocoa production? Do you have any idea?
