How Will Ramires Santos Do Nascimento Be Best Remembered In Chelsea? by luciomoggi(m): 1:15am On Jan 29, 2016
It was saddening for all Chelsea fans when it became official that folk hero (Ramires) had officially joined Jiangsi Suning of China. What started like a daily transfer rumour became reality by noon January 27, 2016. It is so bad that even the potential arrival of another arrival Alexander Pato has done little to ignite excitement of the fans mainly due to the departure of club legend Ramires.

In economic terms, it should be noted that Ramires was an £18 purchase from Portuguese Powerhouse Benfica in 2010, hence his £25 transfer to China makes financial sense for the club in view of his age (29 soon). What is important is that Ramires wrote his name in Gold at the West London club with his tireless running both in attack and defence and his box-to-box play which is becoming rare each passing day in world football . He was at the fulcrum of the teams counter-attacking play as his pace was a nightmare to opposing defenders. Such was his pace that he scored on the stroke of half time against Barcelona in the Champions League semi final (2011/2012) making it 1-1 after a Frank Lampard through ball, before running half of the field and stylishly chipping goalkeeper Victor Valdes. Chelsea went on to win the game and also win the tournament as Ramires also won both the Champions League and FA CUP that season. During his stay in Chelsea he could play in any position in the midfield, often partnering Nemanja Matic or John Obi Mikel as defensive midfielders or playing on the right wing in a 4-2-3-1 formation. The fans will not forget his goal of the season contender (2015/2016) against Newcastle which was more than 25 yards and helped earn the team a point. He departs Chelsea having played 160 league games scoring 17 goals.

Ramires was often called "Rambo" by the Chelsea fans due to his ability to destroy the opposition one by one. It was also his goal that opened the scoring in the 2-1 FA Cup (2012) win over Merseyside Liverpool. He won the Players' Player of the Year Award and Goal of the Year Award for the chip against Barcelone which was voted by Chelsea players.

The departure of the Brazilian might be not be unconnected to the fact that since the appointment of Dutchman Guus Hiddink, Ramires has only made the bench and hasn't played any minute of the game while he was in Jose Mourinho's starting line up 15 times out of 23 league games this season alone.

To put it better it feels like a decade of his stay in Chelsea due to his effortless contribution and he departs fulfilled having won every trophy both in England ( FA Cup, Capital One Cup, Premier League) and Europe ( UEFA Champions League and Europa League). To the fans he will forever remain a blue as he gave more than the Best to the team at all times.
