Normally, paying over sticker price for a new car is ill advised, especially paying $1 million over the 2017 Acura NSX's $156,000 sticker. However, when that car is VIN 001 and all the proceeds will go to charity, paying over sticker is a good thing. Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports, bought the first 2017 NSX for $1.2 million at the 2016 Barret-Jackson auction Friday.

All the proceeds of the NSX's sale went to two charities, the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and Camp Southern Ground. Hendrick, himself a cancer survivor, has bought other VIN 001 cars at previous Barrett-Jackson auctions including the 2013 Corvette Stingray and the 2015 Corvette Z06.

Since its production hasn't yet begun, Hendrick actually won the right to order the first 2017 NSX, not the car that crossed the auction block. Hendrick keeps his cars in a Museum at Hendrick Motorsports in Charlotte, N.C.

If your name isn't Rick Hendrick and you want a new NSX, ordering will begin on Feb. 25 with a starting price of $156,000. Just make sure you order it with the optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires because we found they truly make the car come alive.
