Reasons To Consider Switching Your Job According To Pokelagos by Nobody: 2:13pm On Feb 02, 2016
Reasons to quit your job this year

A career change is very vague, but it sounds better when you see it as a means of boosting your skills. We understand that as an average Lagosian, a career change is the riskiest thing that you could think to do, but have you ever sat down to think about the real reason you work that mundane job of yours?

If you're a little confused, or need some eye openers as to why you could be working and unsatisfied, here are reasons to consider.

YOU CHOSE YOUR JOB OUT OF DESPERATION.
If the reason you're working your current job had to do with desperation; perhaps by means of family connection, or happenstance, you may need to switch careers as soon as possible. Think about your skills and what you truly enjoy. Are you working because you need to impress? Or quickly make money? Sooner or later, you'll realise that you're part of the unfulfilled lot. Don’t be afraid to consider a unique career. You deserve a career that's chosen consciously by you.

IF YOUR INCOME DOESN'T PAY THE BILLS.
Maybe you've settled for a job. You follow a daily routine, and flow with work, but you just aren't making enough. Money may not be able to buy happiness, but it is an important part of living life. There’s no doubt that some careers give you better access to money than others, but if your skills aren't being rewarded accordingly, it's time to start scouting for a new job. If you can work while engaging in part-time freelance work, why not start honing your skills? Check out Starting out as a freelancer for some tips on using your passion to pay the bills.

IF YOU'VE DEVELOPED A GREATER INTEREST IN SOMETHING ELSE.
There are an amazing number of careers available today that weren't really a 'thing' when you were in secondary school or college. If you’ve developed an interest in a new industry that is growing quickly, this is a great time to go in. A career in an emerging field will allow you to grow quickly, learn entirely new skills and rekindle the fire you may have lost with your current job.

IF YOU HAVE A TERRIBLE BOSS.
This is a bit of a shaky subject. Terrible bosses are all over the world. While we agree that you should work hard regardless of your boss, there are times when your boss is an indicator to leave. Life's too short to work for a terrible boss. Life's too short to go home every day feeling taken for granted and life's too short to go home frustrated everyday as this could damage you physically, emotionally and even mentally. So before transferring your aggression to your neighbor consider a change.

PS- The keyword here is "terrible". Just because your boss is mean, loud, or even annoying isn't a good enough reason to quit your job as these are petty flaws. We are talking about real pain in the ass Ogas! Make this decision wisely.

YOUR TALENT DOESN'T MATCH YOUR DISCIPLINE.
Are you a Mechanical Engineer who struggles with heavy engines? Do you send your car to the Mechanic shop to get it fixed for you because you can't? Or perhaps you study Law/Journalism and you're too shy to speak in public? If your talents don’t match the field you find yourself in, switch careers as soon as possible. Chances are, you are working just to get paid. Trust me, you'll get bored of it real soon. Have a personal assessment and find a field that is a better match for you. Get to know your interests and figure out how to get paid using them!

Switching careers can be frightening, but you’ll find many skills that are directly transferable. Don’t delay. If you’re in one of the situations mentioned above, switch careers as soon as possible. You'll thank us for it!
