if there is nothing concrete for you in that state then it may be advisable to go home. Jobs are not assured anywhere. if you think the posssbility of getting a job in that state is higher u could hang around a while. 2 Likes 1 Share |

The dilemma of a typical Nigerian graduate. If you can afford accommodation at your PPA and you have something that can keep you busy there, then it is better to stay back cause going back home has a lot of challenges especially when getting a job delays. You will so much feel like committing suicide...... *Modified* I actually planned staying back at my PPA but guy, that village no be here o, no road, no electricity, no water and no nothing except some old faces going to farm every morning. BTW, I served in Ohafia LG of Abia state some years back. |

Everybody's case is unique but proper planning may increase the odds . First of all I don't agree with this whole practice today of waiting till the end of NYSC to search for a job . I served in 2014 and started looking for job before I even went to camp . I responded to job adverts on LinkedIn, ngcareers and jobberman. A good number of these companies lost interest in me when they found out that I was a corper however one company (a Plc ) in Victoria Island told me point blank that it was against their policy to hire candidates who had not done the compulsory national service but they could take me as a corper . I accepted their offer and immediately went to my PPa and negotiated with the principal to allow me work from home since the ppa wasn't paying me . He agreed and I resumed work in the said company earning N30k monthly . Completed NYSC in mid October last year . Continued working and two weeks after pop the company made me a full time offer of 110k monthly even though it's not great I can feed and maintain my self and never had to sit at home idle . I advised many of my corper friends then but they were having fun and some were talking bout Looking for job after NYSC . I even met one or two uncles for job but they all kept saying "can't help till you complete NYSC " and all. But I believed in what I was doing and was able to get something out of it . I will advice the op to take whatever job he finds even if the pay is little because if I compare my CV a year before NYSC and my cv at the end of the NYSC , I can see remarkable improvement in skills and projects embarked on. But if I was at home I would have had just education and NYSC on my CV. 11 Likes |

Irrespective or where you're serving, accessible by boat or very fascinating, the truth still remain you'll become more focused once you're independent. My take on this is this, "if your ppa and state is alluring, stay back, but if it's not and very unbearable, relocate to another city or state but don't go back home" It's the best. petiteee: Since what they pay u and FG is good, I bet u must have saved up, if most cases, accommodation is cheap, get one, if the ppa has been providing for one, beg them to retain u and still pay u d stipend they pay u, use the saved up money, get a shop, buy some goods and start something, get a sales girl and always retire to your shop @ d end of work, do that that until u can get your own apartment and den quit the job and face your business full time, believe u me, if u spend as much time and dedication u spend @ work to your business, u will be surprised that u will gain more financially @ the end of every month dan u do while working + free time to do other things. Be your own boss. Buying and selling petty goods can really pay well if you are serious with it. Forget that idea of " I am working in a government establishment." I know of a woman who sell bread, from 8am -1pm daily, she just sit one place and @ d end of the day, after feeding and all expenses, she goes home with nothing less than 2k, multiply that by 20 days, no state government will pay you above that at entry level+ plus, transport, cloths to look good to work. U can aswell be looking for a FG work or good private establishment job, ur business will always give u time and freedom to move around to submit CV's and interviews, if u get something better, u can quit your shop and move on, all the same, don't stay idle, be a hustler. As for me? Until I see who can pay me above 500k with a 2.2 cert, I am not working for any Damn modafvcker and I am not gonna enter skul ever again, I get well paid from what I do for now and that is being my own boss. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

hello Betty... top of the list is safety second consider accommodation thirdly what do you really want... are there other options apart from home? my experience....i served in katsina, lovely place...gave me accommodation a gardener and all, tempted me to stay behind with an awesome pay package... BOKO came along and after NYSC you just become a government statistic (two killed, five dead etc.) i reconsidered. never wanted to return home after service....so i called my sister and went to stay with her (asked her to give me six months). did some crazy stunts then. had about 30 copies of my CV and armed with it i went far and near...office to office, online etc. for the first two weeks. nothing worked! felt bad and almost crazy. then in anger one evening, i opened my phone and saw an advert for an interview the very next day about three streets from the house. called and booked, went next day and got the job!!! wish you the best! 5 Likes |
