Following reports that went rife on news media few days ago that multiple award winning highlife act, Flavour is set to sue telecommunications brand, MTN for royalty claims and copyright infringement, the singer has since denied the claims.
News filtered into the media space few days ago that Flavour, a Globacom ambassador and South African act, DJ Cleo are entangled in a huge royalty war with MTN. The duo were reportedly in dispute with the telecoms company for using their materials as ringtones and ring back tunes without remitting the proper sales data.
According to a report by City Press, a South African news platform, Flavour and DJ Cleo have secured the services of copyright expert, Graeme Gilfillan. It was gathered Gilfillan began sending out separate requests for data from MTN, Vodacom and CCA since mid-December 2015.
In his letters, Gilfillan says there has been ‘disquiet’ at the way the companies use a ‘three-month limited licence’ to sell ringback tones pertaining specifically to how mechanical royalties are accounted, reported and disclosed.
Speaking with ERAVE through his representative, Flavour disclosed that “there is nothing of such because it doesn’t exist”.
When probed further and informed of the developments by our correspondent, he said, “We have no idea of such law suit.”
