The Sorry Mental State Of Unemployed Nigerians. by Nobody: 8:00pm On Feb 15, 2016 |
I saw a topic hit front page today (15th Feb, 2016) about a guy who was told to pay 50,000 to get a job. While reading the post and the comments, it jolted my memory of a similar story a friend told me last year December. He has just finished nysc and wanted a job in one of the big multinational companies. He said there was a reliable man who he was told to meet that could secure him a job. As at when he was telling me the story he said he had spent close to 700k in settling and opening the way to get the job. When I heard that. My heart skipped. The guy was one of those people that believed that getting a job, wearing your official clothes and leaving for office early in the morning and returning late at night was the real way to live life. All he talks about is jobs. How this company is now paying this salary. How a friend of his is now a big boy in town working for one oil company and the rest. I'm always quiet when he talks. I just listen. As if paying 700k was not enough he said that the so called guy told him to just keep having faith and praying that he might be 'Lucky'. It was at this point that I noticed that the 'job' stereotype was eating deep into unemployed youths in this country. The stupid thing about this guy's case was that he was bold enough to even tell me that the link he is using will enable him get the job without any interview or training. That he would just start working. There were a lot of things with that. 1) How then can you do the job? With no training or experience if you by a 'stroke of luck' even finally get the job? 2) The company he mentioned was a major player in the oil and gas sector. I'm not the job type of person but I know that a big company like that has checks in place to fish out 'illegal workers' like that. So what if he gets sacked after just two months into the job? 3) He has spent 700k and yet no results were forthcoming and he sees it as perfectly normal and still hopes and prays for the job. The last time I heard from the guy was last week and he said it is still being 'processed'. I wished him all the good luck I can. What is wrong with the unemployed youths of this nation? Why is this job stereotype so ingrained fully in their system? Some go as far as paying to get interviews or even the jobs themselves without success. One thing that came across my mind in my friend's story above was that. 'If you could cough out 700k, then you actually don't even really need a job'. BE YOUR OWN BOSS! the guys story on the front page today has 50k and he wants to pay his uncle. Do you know how many businesses you can start with 50k? A ton! You can control how much you will earn monthly. You can control your working hours. You can become your own boss. Why pay to get a job? Where you can easily get laid off. Where you work input is 20x greater than whatever salary you are being paid. It sucks! You are reading this here on Nairaland now. Who owns Nairaland? Seun! He is a boss of himself. He makes tons of cash because he created an Avenue for you and me to come interact. He earns way more than some of you guys with the big companies working your ass out every single day with no rest. I'm not against hunting for a job. But going to the extreme to secure something like that is madness. There are two types of people. The Entrepreneur and the worker. If you wanna be a worker. Fine. But at least use some common sense and wisdom! Signing out. Cc lalasticlala, Seun 3 Likes 1 Share |

Some just have to be workers, while others are entrepreneurs. The fact that you are a worker today doesn't mean you can't be an entrepreneur tomorrow. And most entrepreneurs started somewhere as workers. A lot of entrepreneurs got their ideas while/after working for others. 1 Like |

Gherrokid: I'm not against that. It's the extent they'd go to secure that so called job while they could use that money to start something small and if they want to be workers that bad, Keep hunting while having a small side biz running. Or just become an entrepreneur. And 'a lot' of entrepreneurs didn't get their idea while working for someone else. Some did. |

Some pple are better off wrking a corporate settings. Some pple cant do business, hence, they try to get a job by all means. Some, prefer to be their own boss, but no start up fund. If I have enough capital, I wont even contemplate to join the banking industry wch I just succeeding in landing a job in one of the new generation banks. Though am yet to resume. So, in trying to judge some1, try to see things from their own POV. 1 Like |
