The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, was rated the best University in the country (Nigeria) and included among the best 2,000 in the world according to the latest ranking released by Webometrics this January, 2016. This ranking was based on their Google Scholar Citation profiles [First Edition (December 2015)].
UNN came 1st in Nigeria, 14th in Africa and 1389th in the world. As a matter of fact, less than 30 African Universities were ranked. Also, only UNN and University Ibadan were ranked from Nigeria.
The ranking system measures how strong a university web presence is; by its own web domain, sub-pages, rich files and published scholarly articles.
According to the ranking system, web presence is a reliable indicator of the global performance and prestige of the universities and could serve
as an indirect way to measure efficiency of universities in the performance of their tripartite function of teaching, research and knowledge transfer.
