this 'll be UK new dimension assistance to Nigeria, by helping us build prisons and our it doesn't look absurd in the mind of our good-for-nothing govt. The message is concise and simple, that is Nigerians over there are "potentials criminals". Maybe is one of the Ojo Maduekwe citizen's diplomacy
Re: Uk To Build N300m Prison In Nigeria ! by ProfJYK(m): 2:15pm On Jul 12, 2009
i only hope the engineers and labourers will be nigerian nationals? the job provision is most welcome.
the inflow of revenue (1 million pounds-270 million naira) is also very welcome in this recession turned depresion period.

on the reverse side, upon the completion of thier terms, will the ex-convicts remain in nigeria, or will they go back to the UK. the increasing population of hardened criminals is not welcome, as it is a known fact that the corrections system leaves little or no change in the criminal minds (it even makes them tougher and smarter).

every contingency should be anticipated and measures to reduce its effect should be put in place.

Thats cool. so what are they going to take back from Nigeria. it might appear as though doing us a favor, but they'll surely take something back in return. If they are talking about repatriating the prisoners, let them 1st repratriate our artifacts they have in their museum
Re: Uk To Build N300m Prison In Nigeria ! by No2Atheism(m): 6:25pm On Jul 12, 2009
I am still waiting for the day in which the white men would give black men something for free, without getting back something in return.

- Yes i know Britain would gain money in the short term of building a prison in nigeria, nevertheless they would also gain a long term investement of having somewhere standard to keep their secret criminals from MI6/CIA etc, criminals and people that their own laws would not allow them to keep in their own countries. Which better place to keep such criminals than in a lawless country with a standard prison.

- Britain needs more money than they have , hence trust me Nigeria is going to pay for that prison one way or another, britons are worse than ijebus wen it comes to money. Western Economies are built on debt hence they must always cheat and pillage other countries or people for them to survive (e.g. native american genocide, african genocides, aboriginal genocides, south american genocides, currently going on iraqi genocide, chinese opium wars, indian genocide just to mention a few)

- USA and Britain need somewhere to store their terrorist criminals, hence people are just deceiving themselves if they think na only nigerians go dey that prison once it is built.

- USA and Britain needs to continue to destabilise Africa and Nigeria most especially so that their military industrial complexes can benefit (abi u think say Niger Delta militants dey manufactur weapons for themselves), hence what better way to slowly destabilise nigeria than to create a world class prison in nigeria and wait for corruption to let those criminals leak out into the society and ultimately bring down nigeria and create another military market for the west to sells its weapons. A stable Nigeria does not profit the west just as a stable Japan/China is a threat to the West. Africa has resources, the only way the west can get to those resources without having to pay much for them is by destabilising the countries and using dictators or warlords as pawns for pillaging those countries.

- Africans and Nigerians need to wake up that Western Countries always plan for the future, hence they are not doing this in the interest of nigerians instead they are doing it in the interest of their own business people/not even their own citizen.

- The rich would always get richer with war, hence since the begginning of the century, the rich have been causing and profiting from wars, thus Africom and Prison in nigeria is just another pawn and small step in the equation of destabilising nigeria.

While we complain of bad leadership and corruption by our leaders, the followership too needs a purge of its conscience. Here is one more desperate Nigerian who is amongst the rotten apple spoiling the whole barrel, and yet we wonder why it’s so difficult for honest Nigerian to get a visa to travel, or not face unnecessary and embarrassing checks at foreign ports of entry because of our nationality . God help us, but seriously we also need to help ourselves.

Nigerian man charged in drugs bust

08 July 2009

A 47 year old man was charged on Sunday evening, 5 July 2009, with attempting to smuggle around half a kilo of cocaine into the United Kingdom, through Birmingham International Airport, as part of an investigation by HM Revenue & Customs.

Officers from the UK Border Agency (UKBA) detected the drugs when the American national passport holder, of Nigerian origin, arrived on a flight on Sunday afternoon from South America via Istanbul.

Officers discovered the drugs following a search of luggage. The cocaine has a value of around £25,000 - although this would likely have doubled or trebled once 'cut' by drug dealers.

Dawn Cartwright, Senior investigation officer for HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), said:

'This is another excellent result and sends out a clear message that regional airports like Birmingham are not a soft touch for drug smuggling. We will continue to work with our partners in the UK Border Agency to tackle smugglers who attempt to bring these dangerous drugs into the UK. These hauls demonstrate our continuing efforts to do everything we can to reduce the devastating effects of drugs in our communities. This is a serious offence and we would strongly encourage anyone with information relating to smuggled goods to contact the Customs Hotline on 0800 59 5000 or email customs.hotline@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk.'

Stanley Nwanne Igbokaeze (DOB 30 09 61) was charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, contrary to the Customs and Excise Management Act 1979. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Solihull Magistrates Court of 14 July 2009.

Fellow Nigerians,

Do not be deceived by seemingly kind gestures from the UK government. The UK are only helping themselves to decongest their own prison system to cut their own cost. They do not really have Nigeria at heart.

Let the Nigerian authorities beware of this scam. Of course, some Nigeria officials can easily pocket some money and sign the papers.

If the UK really like Nigeria sooo much, why can they not channel the money to fund one laudable project in Nigeria.

Re: Uk To Build N300m Prison In Nigeria ! by yommyuk: 2:01am On Jul 19, 2009
What motive do you need?
a lot of naija criminals commit crime in the west because they know that if they get caught their time in prison
will be a life of luxury.
britain should not build prison. they should sign an agreement with the naija govt to drop the idoits on
any island near the nigerian shore for the nigerian navy to pick them up free of charges
PUNKS angry
Re: Uk To Build N300m Prison In Nigeria ! by Becomrich: 2:06am On Jul 19, 2009
yommy if britain do that it is called discrimination over here. even if britain build a prison in nigeria alone without building in other countries , britain would have problem with human right groups. And britain would be said to have discriminated against nigeria. No nation want to be label a racist nation. It is not as easy yommy as you think. But nigeria should stop crime in britain.
Re: Uk To Build N300m Prison In Nigeria ! by yommyuk: 2:17am On Jul 19, 2009
LETS BE REAL angry
Most of the naijas in the uk are here to make a better life for themselves. We are all talking about naija with the so so wahala and yeye system.
Then we got these bad eggs coming over with their scatter scatter mentality trying to mess the country up.
Imagine a nigerian through dubious means applying for 8 govt houses. when he gets caught what should be his
dilemma. will u want you tax money to be spent on a slowpoke like that to live in luxury?
I beg make the uk send them all to KIRIKIRI to rout. even the 3 million spending na waste of time, resources and effort.

Talk about misplaced priorities, . . . .same thing happening here, they spend way too much money in the prison system, . . . .

what happens to 'em when they get out ??. . . .they mess up again and go right back in there, where they have food, and a roof over their heads,

just like a snowballing effect, no end in sight, the problem increases with time,

there really should be a way to rehabilitate this ex-cons instead of fueling this ridiculous vicious cycle, if u ask me, undecided
Re: Uk To Build N300m Prison In Nigeria ! by Kobojunkie: 3:55am On Jul 19, 2009
I think you should rethink this @ToYOSi20. It currently costs the British people so much more than a mere million to cater to the Nigerian prisoners in the UK. Choosing to build this prison in Nigeria will not only take a huge burden off the British but it will also reduce the cases in which Nigerians claim the prisons in Nigeria are not good enough for the UK government to send them back to.
Misplaced priority, I don’t think so.
Re: Uk To Build N300m Prison In Nigeria ! by captured(f): 7:06pm On Jul 19, 2009
Britain needs a place to dump some of prisoners so it can look like she is nice since she returns them to their country to be judged instead been the judge.
Nigeria ends up with so much criminals, it is forced to let go of some to accomodate the standard set out by the UK in exchange for these plushed prisons which dont necesarily remould the criminals positively.
In the long run , we end up with higher crime rates, and more desperate criminals.

My point been look at what IMF did to naira and a courtesy call from the Queen or UN wont be something any country would wish upon itself
Reason, it is never about your country, it is always about UK or US
Re: Uk To Build N300m Prison In Nigeria ! by Becomrich: 7:37pm On Jul 19, 2009
No, under international law, britain would be term to have discriminated against nigeria. it is more that what we can talk over the internet. And i can tell you. they may fine britain billion of dollar more than what they want to save in money.

The issue is to stop nigerian for crime. employ more nigerian into the police force.  How can a white person catch a nigeria criminal. Tell me how. The white man understand igbo or hausa? or know how nigeria do things. no. britain would save itsself more money than they think. And one reason nigeria commit crime is that. They do not have a job. And sometime because they want to return back to nigeria because they do not feel like they belong. Just put the right home feeling and they would not commit crime. They mostly feel they do not belong.

And that why issue of nigerian children come to play. And it create alot of problem in nigeria family abroad. while one partner want to take the children to go to all mix church another want all naija or black church. the issue is you are in a society with mix people from different background. if you isolate your children. They would feel they do not belong even if they were born in britain.

Many nigeria live abroad but they are still living in nigeria even while they are abroad. A child abroad who mix with white children have a higher chance of success than a nigeria child with naija naija friends and environment. Go do the statistics. Every prime minister of britain, would have at least in his class gone to school with a nigerian. That nigeria is connection in future. The prime minister will never claim he did not know ke. since you were his classmate. Remember the former prime minister of britain John Major. He had nigeria connection.  go find out his nigeria connection. I would tell you. i should charge you people money for my information.

It is called social network. And your children or others needs it.
Re: Uk To Build N300m Prison In Nigeria ! by yommyuk: 8:51pm On Jul 19, 2009
employ more nigerian into the police force

what nigerian? the british born nigerian? naturalised born nigerian? or illegal bobo nigerian?
Do you know what it is like working in an Institutionalised racist enviroment? On paper the UK govt seems to be
encouraging the ethnic minority to join the MET but the UK govt will never trust a naija to watch over another naija. Dem fear us to much.

The main issue is why should a naija national leave nigeria probably under the pretence that the nigerian system is not working
for him and come into the UK and start commiting crime. In a country where even without papers if u know ur way you will still
survive and be better off than millions of people in nigeria. People like that dont deserve any pity.

In my opinion, they are just a waste of space. Kirikiri or Alagbon should be their Home.
3 million to the UK govt is chicken feed. Small business Turnover. It is even a disgrace for the nigerian govt to accept such a small amount.
Let nigeria improve their prison system and may be use the 3million for programs to educate and rehabilitate the offenders.
