– NFF issues new directive to Sunday Oliseh after recent Youtube rant

– NFF says a similar infraction would not be tolerated in future

– Oliseh will henceforth defend his entire program before the NFF Committee

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has issued a directive to the Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh after a recent social media outburst against his critics.

Naij.com recalls that although Sunday Oliseh apologized to the NFF after his ‘Youtube’ rant in which he alleged there was a campaign against his him, his employers went ahead to slam a $30, 000 fine (about N6m) on him over his unguarded statement in which he described his critics as insane people.

According to reports, the hefty fine came on the heels of Oliseh’s last minute escape from outright sack, thanks to the intervention of sports minister, Solomon Dalung. Sources close to the sports ministry said Dalung pleaded with the NFF to give Oliseh a second chance, but approved the heavy fine slammed on him.

In line with the punishment issued to the Super Eagles coach, the NFF has released a statement and reached an agreement on what further steps should be taken after Oliseh’s social media outburst.

At a meeting of the executive committee of the NFF held at the federation’s secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, February 16, it was revealed that Coach Oliseh will henceforth report to the NFF General Secretary and the Technical and Development Committee.

A statement by the NFF reads: “Executive Committee reviewed the outing of the Super Eagles at the recently –concluded 4th African Nations Championship and the events that followed, and rebuked Head Coach Sunday Oliseh for his unwarranted statements unbecoming of a National Team Coach in both regular and social media. While acknowledging his apology, the Executive Committee made it clear that similar infractions would not be tolerated in future.

“In line with global best practices, the Committee decided that Coach Oliseh MUST henceforth report to the NFF General Secretary and the Technical and Development Committee, and should be ready to defend his entire program before the Committee, including invitation of players and training programs.”

Meanwhile, the NFF has approved the sack of Tijani Babangida, the personal assistant to Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh.

The NFF statement reads: “The immediate disengagement of Mr. Tijjani Babangida as personal assistant to Super Eagles’ Coach, Sunday Oliseh, as recommended by the Technical and Development Committee, was unanimously approved and General Secretary was therefore mandated to follow the due process in effecting his disengagement.”
