What Is The Geographical Size Of The South East Region by omonnakoda: 11:37am On Feb 18, 2016
According to Wikipedia it is 29 385 square kilometres

and Nigeria is 923 768 square kilometres

i.e the SE is 3.1% of the land mass of Nigeria

To put it in further perspective

Cross River State is 20 000 sq Km

Kwars State is 36 000 sq km
Niger State is 76000 Sq km

Oyo State is 28 454 Sq km

It is important to have this sense of perspective when people start agitating for projects to their zones
The is a very tiny place and is less four 4 percent of Nigeria but want an equal share of projects with zones that are 10 times their size. This is wicked and this attitude should change

Do you know the geographical size of Israel? Do you know how small the are? Why are the controlling the economy of so many countries, why are they been feared by other countries, respected etc. Young man pls grow up, it's not about the physical size but the economic size, intellectual size etc. Please also know that there is a difference between population and population density. Google will help you with that. Onuku! (my friend)

Ok we know, You control the world. But still lining up to collect FG allocations just like every other state in Nigeria. You control the world but you still want an equal share of projects with zones that are 10 times your size. The South East should have the best roads and infrastructure in Nigeria with your tiny land mass, You will spend less for infrastructure.

Nonsense thread..this is like asking Lagos not to ask for more infrastructure since it is the smallest state and given more infrastructure to a state like yobe without considering population density

What infrastructure has Lagos got from the FG in the LAST 30 YEARS
Third Mainland Bridge which took over 10 years to complete
Lagos CONTRIBUTES more than 20% of the economy .Geographical size is not the only consideration YES but it is important. Anyhow Lagos state is not getting the infrastructure it needs if it did it would get urban mass transit investment.

Please are you aware that Lagos is the smallest state in Nigeria in terms of geographical size? And yet lagos benefits alot from the FG. Please kindly read Ephesians 5:15. It simple says "use your head"

Lagos DOES NOT BENEFIT from the FG it is the other way round LAGOS is a NET contributor not only to the ECONOMY but also to the public purse. The GDP contribution of Lagos is equal to that of the NEXT SIX STATES COMBINED and that includes oil producing states

Please tell us ONE BENEFIT of the FG to Lagos state ,ONE

Ignorance, learn to make coherent point rather than wired assumptions. How does Israel enters the bill? the East cannot expect to have equal number of states compare to other regions which have diverse more expansive lands. The East should learn to demand what it needs, what will help its people not what will make them equal because their understanding of equality is flawed, and does it take into the peculiar needs of the region.

Pls tell this brown roofie that nobody in South East is clamoring for federal projects or assistance.

People in Aba,Onitsha,Enugu,Nnewi etc are in their shops either selling or producing a product nobody here is relying on federal assistance.

Also Congo is 7times bigger than South Korea in land mass,But South Korea economy is over 100times bigger than Congo.South Korea is far developed than Congo.

It is quality that matters, not quantity!

Lagos is the largest city in terms of land mass in Nigeria, the largest population in Nigeria. Even the East receive a lot of benefits from FG, so your point is moot!

-FG built your ports and made them exceptionally functional thereby triggering economic growth which will lead to greater investments from foreign and local investors which will lead to infrastructural development.

In simpler terms
Port->Economic growth->Investments->Infrastructure->More Jobs

Op I know you are yoruba...worrying about Igbos problems. Let me send your nonsensical argument into sink hole toilet. Anambra the smallest state in SE by land mass is 3 times of Lagos when you take into account that half of Lagos is water ..I know you don't know this...**** By your sophisticated Ibadan Express way myopic logic, Anambra should get 3 times of Lagos monthly allocation because it's 3 times larger than Lagos in actual land mass? ****

First of all no the ports were built in 1896

by the British and further devloped by the British before independence ( I strongly recommend you study that report in the link to educate yourself about Lagos ). The ports are an investment just like LNG projects and other oil installations in the Niger Delta. They are NOT our ports they are Federal government ports and the revenue therefrom is distributed to other states with one FUNDAMENTAL DIFFERENCE. The derivation principle does not apply. its
Yes we benefit from the location but that is God's doing and our ancestors doing for occupying such a strategic location. Nothing to do with FG

There is even more investment in LNG ,Bonga field oil projects and so on.It would be an insult to tell the people in the creeks that those investments are theirs or that they benefit. We suffer from gridlock and such like in Apapa and the FG abandons the roads.

We must distinguish between benefits and business. The constitution does not allow states to own ports otherwise Lagos state will OWN its own ports and keep the over One trillion Naira therefrom for itself. Instead the state that gets the most out of that port is Kano!! Why does derivation not apply to the port?

PFRB:
There is no region in Nigeria called South East.
In law and constitutionally I agree with you 100% however our political class have more or less legitimized this dubious construct and it has widespread currency and acceptance politically and practically.
It has been touted quite recently in the resolution of conflict arising in the Dogara saga

Reading with your eyes close is not considered reading, it is called imagining, Lagos State is a city, as a city in Nigeria it has the largest land mass compared to any other city in the country.

Your excuse that it was built in 1896 by the British is a flawed logic, in that the British then were the equivalent of the present day FG; Nigeria was their colony and they used our wealth as a country to carry out those projects.
