Sorry oh student. Nigerian politicians are like that.
He has been speaking as far back as 2011. Check youtube!

If Ben Murray Bruce was a genuine human right activist and he knows that this student will succeed this era then he should have gave all attentions needed to them (the students), if he wanted us to believe in who he proclaims to be he shouldn't have done this in a hall but rather in open so that we Nigerians will know he his worthy of his praise.

If really he wants to team a better interaction between our ethnicity and etcetera he shouldn't have allowed such a number of dignity in the launching.

Please tell Ben Murray Bruce that we are now aware of his misconception partaining the so called "COMMON-SENSE", and with this I will urge Nigerians to hence use their natural "SCARCE-SENSE" because I can see he (Ben Murray Bruce), got the generally known political-sense.

well it too obvious some people lost their common sense to an advocate of non-sense.

I am Ademola Afeez

your sense is really scarce indeed, so he should not mingle with dignitaries, the party should have been b/w him and the students alone. How was he even suppose to be everywhere, have you ever tried organising a party self.

It's just the mentality, its very difficult to fight, even the guy complaining has become a part of that culture...a culture that believes that because you're not rich or because you're young and unconnected somehow makes you less than human angry

Dear Abidemi Adesokan,

Sorry about the "perceived discriminating" treatment you got at the #BenBruceAt60 party. Unfortunately the party is meant for people with commonsense and you just proved to the whole world that you're are the wrong guest at the event.

Waitaminute, na only u waka go the party from Unilag? How come only you out of 54 Unilag students in attendance decided to publicly display your folly? I feel sorry for your parents whom you've practically embarrassed, by giving the impression that you are poorly fed.

Lesson: You cannot become great by disparaging a great man. Uncle Ben celebrated his 60 and am sure yours ain't half his - You have a long way to go, humble yourself and learn!

My advice: Tender in person, an apology to Uncle Ben Bruce for this foolish act and pray he pardons you.
You're still a student, strive for excellence and when you do, your accomplishments would naturally announce your presence at any event.

Finally, Receive sense!

Dear Femi
I understand your pain but am sure you just wasted an opportunity to learn something great by this act of public display of folly. Yes you're a student, you not the first neither will you be the last. Casting aspersion on someone who has accomplished so much won't add a point to your GP.
If i were you, I'd be inspired by the event to strive for excellence, so when next i attend events such #BenBruceAt60, my achievements will announce my presence.

Your act here neither portray commonsense
rhymesmith:

Why do we people usually fail to practice what we preach? A person who claims to be an advocate of equality and general COMMON SENSE approach happened to have been the same person who treated the students of the departments of Mass communication and political science, University of Lagos, with so much segregation and disregard. So much for COMMON SENSE. At the 60th birthday and book launch of the Chairman, Silverbird group, Sen. Ben Murray Bruce, this was exactly the case. Besides the fact that our presence was hardly notice and not recognised, we were fed like we came to beg for food, The book, which was promised to the guests didn't even get to us(I'm guessing we weren't categorised as guests), and also, even after the President of the Mass communication department sent a letter to senator Ben to call his attention to the situation, he turned a blind eye. #NotSoCommonSense. The major reason why I attended was that I thought that it will provide me with the opportunity to meet the key players in Nigerian politics, entertainment, business and other fields. How wrong was I? I, Akinseye Oluwafemi of the department of Mass Communication, happened to have been present to witness the appalling and below human treatment given to us students. But we were invited here, I thought. Or did we gate crash? I refuse to be silent on this and I appeal to you also to forward this message until it gets to Sen. Ben, so that he can understand that his actions were #NotSoCommonSense after all.

Must so called elites in this country are too forgetful of the fact that we are all like birds in this world... Sooner or later, we will fly back! He is 60 right, I pray for him that he will leave more years and witness the success of the he underrated. I'm not usually concerned or moved with their attitudes!!! The more they aged, the more fool they become!

Mtcheww!

Your obtuseness is overwhelming.
If you subject his comment to your bias views then you're no different from him who refused to gather knowledge you're meant to gather- that's if you attended any school at all.

Btw stop wasting your creativity disparaging people on public platforms such as this.
rhymesmith:

Sigh!

Lack of intelligence tells on you sir.
If you do not understand the reason why the students see this as a despicable act, then I guess you never went through the University (and even if you did, you refused to gather the knowledge you were meant gather).

And btw, for your information, you have successfully painted Sen. Ben Murray Bruce in a worse light than these poor students have.

Go and learn how to be more creative instead of just looking for cheap publicity with your #NotSoCommonSense post.

Who is Genuine in Nigeria?

Senator Ben Murray Bruce turned 60 yesterday, he took the opportunity to launch his book "The Common Sense Revolution" but it's sad to see that the event in its totality portrays the average Nigerian Politician.

Usually, I hate to attend these so called "Big" events but it was Ben Bruce, the common sense guy, I jumped at the Opportunity to go with my department, department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos as we were invited with a letter and we were feeling all important. We didn't know it was an invitation to humiliation.

At the venue, we were told to go upstairs, we didn't mind, as they said that area was reserved for students. Getting there, I realized it was a perfect view to watch the "Elites" wine and dine. Still, we didn't care. We only began to care when the ceremony kept going on and all tables kept getting additional contents and we were just there, like Observers. Don't forget that we were invited, as I said earlier.

While all of that kept happening, I still didn't care because they said every guest will get a free copy of the book. I wanted the book so, I waited on. At the end, only the guests got the Book. I had to look at our invitation to be sure we were guests. Yes, we were guests but the stiff class stratification that Senator Bruce Criticizes came to play.

It's so sad to see that the actions of the Common Sense Guy justifies the "Common Sense is not so common" statement.

Since I know it's all fake, I'd like to give a professional PR advice. It's so bad, if you invite Nigerian Students, who will, to a large extent, determine your political success, to an event only for them to watch you and your rich friends dine. Their votes aren't even enough.

Writing a book about Common Sense doesn't actually make you have Common Sense. We aren't hungry people. We are Unilag Students and we are contented with what we have, we wouldn't go to shop 10 to sweet-talk anyone about common sense, just to get rice.

Happy Birthday, Senator Ben! Thanks for the deceit, segregation and above all, thanks so much for the Palm oil made Jollof Rice with a meat-like object.

I am Abidemi Adesokan, A concerned Nigerian Student who believes there is hope for Nigeria, but Bruce isn't just that guy.

Ben Bruce took you people up there so you can watch SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE WINE AND DINE AND GET PROVOKED TO WORK HARD IN ORDER TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL TOO!

The funny thing about this whole case is that in student-world, Unilag folks see themselves as over and above students from most other institutions in Nigeria. Their arrogance oozes in any social setting involving those other 'lower' species.... So it's a bit amusing to see them handed their asses on a plate by those likewise 'above' them on the social ladder, in the Eko Hotel banquet hall. Now they can see what LASU students have been experiencing from them all these years. cool

So when anyone Googles their names now this thread will pop up.

...all because of a false sense of entitlement. If I created a thread for every event I went and wasn't well attended to, NLs bot would have given me a 3 year ban for spamming.

See the pride in the OP and his class mates like they of Harvard and Cambridge.

Stop with all the lies please! I was at this event and those that sat upstairs got to the event late. They were asked to go upstairs cos the hall was totally full to capacity. The fact that the organisers went the extra mile to share food and drinks to guests upstairs should not be used against them. Nothing was charged to gain entry to this event. I saw students from other universities seated at tables downstairs amongst dignitaries. Dear Unilag students, you need to understand what the term "adherence to schedule " means if you hope to make it in life. There was no discrimination at this event and people (students inclusive) were allowed to mingle and network with the who is who present at the event. You guys got to the event late and got seats upstairs. Would you have had Mr. Bruce ask some guests that got to the event early to vacate their seats for you cos you are Unilag students and you have access to the Internet and know how to use Nairaland? You guys need to tell yourselves the truth about the event you attended. You were late for the event. For an event that is not out to make profit, I would say it was well organised! Better than most events people paid N1m for a table.
