Thank you all for your valuable contributions. Let me just add that the workshop Manager also is the Head Accountant, Personnel Manager, Auditor, Head Supervisor as is the case in all these "foreign" companies operating in Nigeria. The reason is not that the Nigerians can handle the issues, but they don't respect us and they just prefer their brother over us. He's the person we go to whenever an issue like that comes up. I know because I was an Admin staff in that place for two years. Nobody goes to him to ask for permission from work. I never experienced it in all my time there. So don't blame me for doing what I knew was right. Thank you
My brother , you did the right thing, i have worked with an Idian company before..they are the worse set of people to also work with...terrible bosses they are .I had limited or no time for my perosnal life....it was that company i resigned without getting an alternative job and i never regreted it...these people..Indians, Lebanese, and chinese and terrible you beings.

OP for you not touching him, i bet you ve won the case. but you should not give up. it may take years for this case to end. there is a colleague of mine that his former South African boss sent him letter inside the cell after he got him arrested, my colleague refused to accept the letter cos he was arrested on false info given by the boss and other high executives in the company, he took the case to court. they were on the case since 2013 and the judge in charge was not ready to take bribe(according to him, he will soon retire and he wants to retire with a clean slate) it was last week the judge gave his final judgement that my colleague should be paid 20m Naira.

Write a petition against d Lebanese.Include the name and address of the company in ur petition. Address ur letter to
The Comptroller
Nigeria Immigration Service
Rivers State Command
Port Harcourt.

It is a violation to Immigration laws of Nigeria. We shall despatch a team of intelligent officers to thoroughly investigate the company and interrogate the staff. If found guilty he shall be liable of compensation and repatriation/deportation depending on the outcome of the investigation. It might interest u to know that I am an incorruptible Immigration officer of the FRN.Looking forward to receiving ur letter/petition.U can also pm me

A) what has your salary got to do with anything?! this is your job, and in that job description you are suppose to work on saturdays.... end of story!

B) if i was your boss i wouldnt have given you the day off.... NONSENSE! did you get to know about that wedding on that friday?! you have a job that needs to be taken care of, and if you dont have common sense to understand that your bosses cant find a replacement in such short notice (less than 24hrs), then thats the moment i will let you decide between going to your friend wedding OR keeping your job.... the other option would be for you to find someone in the office "qualified" to do your job, willing to take over your duty on that saturday.

C) who granted you the day off?! NOBODY. the person you asked, told you to take the issue with the MD, which "you" decided not to do. again, thats your fault. this is not some big company where you are in a different world from your MD, and therefore you should have talked to him. the only reason you didnt is because you knew he was going to deny you.

D) at the end of the day, whatever happens at the police station and however you may want to shift the issue at hand, you've lost your job due to your own doing... and thats a fact!

finally, here you are talking about how your bosses mistreat people bla bla bla, but funny enough, you had absolutely no issues with that (for God knows how long) until YOU fukced up. stop being an hypocrite!
And you, stop been a dick and a slave at heart..first the op wrote that they do no grant thier employee leave off work but becos of your slave minded mind you refuse to read that part ..did you..secondly..there this op answers to a boss and not the lebanese..in every company you inform you immediate boss and do not jump protocols ...i have worked in a company where even if write for a leave you wont be granted that leave and they will tell you how grateful you are to land yourself in the job you have..you are here supporting these Stupid and uncultured people when even you cannot understand that an employee take instructions from his immediate boss..now the immediate now is incapactated becos of the way these people are..and the answer will still remain No...you are here speaking grammer...the worse the stupid monster could do was to terminate his employment and not to assult him in his own country..can he try this nonsense with your belove one and you will smile over it...why wont you say that when you are not the in his shoe...na people like you ,dey lick lebanese asses....all Nigerians are wrong where the lebanese is concerned ...Please emaniciapte yourself from this mental slavery that you have..you irritate me and your fellow Nigeriand with you way of are thinking.

well first of all even though you are my country man, i still will tell you the truth. If you know how people behave, then you know how to deal with them. the way you conduct and carry yourself anywhere you are is how you will be treated. you erred by not making your request for leave absolutely official. You told your work shop manager about it and he advised you to speak with your boss. you should have done so and all this would not be happening.
secondly you goofed when you eventually resumed office. you should not have begged him. there is a difference between apologizing and begging. i am sure you your countenance and disposition portrayed fear and that you were absolutely sorry and scared of losing your job, which gave you away. you don't show fear to such people, you show strength, confidence yet remorse. this would have made him think twice before assaulting. but because he saw you apologizing probably almost kneeling he knew you were scared of losing your job and scared of him too as your boss so he attacked you. i am not saying all this to make you see me as a bigger man, i just want you to know when dealing with a bully you don't show fear.

in any case i commend your patience and hope you deal with him severely because it is becoming routine for these Indians and Lebanese who are way below us Nigerian.

All being said and one, his dragging this to the Police has to do with assault, not even to keep his job. Assault is a civil offence that is punishable before the law, so the Lebanese should be made to face the full wrath of the law for assaulting a fellow human especially a labourer who he obviously tried to intimidate.

About time these brutes are reminded they are among us to better their lot rather than to diminish ours.

Common sense is not common after all
MRBrownJ:

you are the one who is not very smart.... your manager tells you that he cannot grant you the day off on such a short notice, and that you have to take the issue with the MD, and YOU decided not to listen to your manager and instead "disappear". how difficult is this to understand?!
who granted you the right to not come to work? it sure wasnt your workshop manager.

whether it is calculated as overtime or not is irrelevant here. if your contract stipulates that you have to work on saturdays, then thats it. blame only yourself for signing that contract. why do you change your story as you go along? wasnt it you who wrote the following:

I am a BSc degree holder in accounting and I am being paid #30,000 plus I have to work on Saturdays too.

Re: How I Was Assaulted By My Lebanese Boss Yesterday Morning by cococandy(f): 3:50pm On Feb 24, 2016
Nobody said you deserved to be beaten.

Just own up your own wrong doing. Let's start from there.

Charlieubochi:

God bless you my brother. I'm shocked at some people's Comments. People saying I was at fault for not asking for permission even after I stated that I did are not very smart. How can you say anybody created by God deserves to be beaten just because he didn't come to work on Saturday which isn't even compulsory because it's calculated as overtime. The people accusing me have zero self esteem and don't understand basic human rights.

Re: How I Was Assaulted By My Lebanese Boss Yesterday Morning by Marriott1980(m): 4:00pm On Feb 24, 2016
Hmmmmm i read with fascination the mixed reactions on this topic and i think i should drop a few pointers.

1. The OP asked his warehouse manager which i want to believe is his immediate boss. There is something called the chain of command and in this type of case, the warehouse manager is your first line supervisor and you did no wrong by telling him first. He told you to go to the MD to make the request by yourself, this to me is incompetence on the part of the manager. In more organised companies, an MD would not even listen to what you have to say if it does not come from your first line supervisor.

2. Some people here are claiming you are wrong for not informing him hence the justification for you being slapped. i want to state categorically here that no employer have no right whatsoever to resort to physical abuse of an employee, some do emotional abuse and get away with it because there is no proof but physical abuse is a no no.

3. Other argued that you were aware of how he maltreat others in the past but you never said anything until it got to your turn, well i will say in Nigeria there is still a level of colonial mentality in our thinking that we are quick to attack if a black man maltreat us but slow to attack if it is a white man or brown man. Most of these people who complain would not even follow you if you shout Aluta continua because they dont know where the next meal is gonna come from.

4. You went through the legal process. I applaud you for this because most people would resort to fighting and destroying properties of the company just to shouw their greivance and there by losing the assault case before it even start, mind you he might even order other Nigerians there to deal with you and they wont even hesitate.
Re: How I Was Assaulted By My Lebanese Boss Yesterday Morning by texazzpete(m): 4:35pm On Feb 24, 2016
I'm a nice guy, so I'll tell you what the other people are being Too diplomatic to tell you.

You're going to get nothing from this. The Lebanese guy has enough cash to bribe the policemen, and within days you'll probably find yourself facing accusation of rowdy behavior and destruction of company property. Your word against his. Your pockets against his.

Add to that, your job is as good as gone.

You should have retaliated that slap and knocked out one of his front teeth to leave him with a life-long lesson on tolerance and respect for people. You'd still have been fired, but you'd get some form of justice after all.

You'll know when the tide turns when the MD stops begging and the police start frowning at you.

I tell you I've never had a greater desire to beat or even kill someone like I felt after the idiot slapped me. I just didn't want to mess up the case and spoil my chances of seeing his ugly Arabic self in court. I know they are all illegal immigrants with fake papers but I don't know how to go about reporting the issue and if reporting it would help me in any way because they have people in Immigrations and tax office that help them defraud Nigeria.
Pls holla me if you see any immigration officers that will help you,i need to report my stupid Indian boss too.
