You do realise that Nigeria is already in a precarious situation as it stands now. If u agree we need more security personnel/gadgets for proper scrutiny (even though these are more reactive than proactive measures), is it not only proper that such measures are put in place and effectively working before u throw open ur borders and eliminate immigration restrictions for countries that have known presence of terrorist groups?

Should u shut the barn after the horses have escaped then come back to cry foul?

Cast your mind back to a few months ago when a known terrorist wanted by international security agencies was nabbed enroute Nigeria...was it not because he had a Nigerian visa in his passport we started hearing of it and questions were asked as to who granted such person a Nigerian visa in the first instance? When u take out those restrictions what do u think will happen? How do u know his next destination in order to activate security protocols where possible?

Yes, if terrorist wan enter dem go enter but don't make it easy for them! It is possible to have good commercial/foreign rlations wth these and other countries without throwing immigration to the winds!
Vice versa, legit business trade / tourism should not suffer because of terrorism. Shikena!

The Federal Government has called for the abolition of visa requirement among the members of the Developing Eight (D-cool Countries Organisation for Economic Cooperation to ensure free movement of people and trade.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, made the call when he met with the Secretary General of the organisation, Dr Seyed Ali-Mohammed, on Wednesday, in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the D-8 countries are Nigeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan and Turkey.
“One area that I think D8 must to work on and if really they want to succeed, they must make sure that there is no barrier in term of visa among those eight countries.
“You cannot grow any trade talk less of tourism, if I cannot have easy access to Malaysia, Egypt, Iran, Pakistan.
“You can imagine the volume of trade that will develop over night if only you can make sure that if I want to go to Iran that there is bilateral agreement between Nigeria and Iran, between Nigeria and Pakistan and among those eight countries that there will be free movement of people.
“It is free movement of people that will guarantee free movement of trade.
“So, this is one area that I believe that you need to work hard on.’’
Mohammed, who commended the organisation’s focus on tourism development, said the provision of infrastructure was critical to the development of domestic tourism.
According to him, “until you develop domestic tourism, you cannot have international tourism”.
In his remarks, Ali-Mohammed said the purpose of his visit was to intimate the minister about the organisation’s resolve to focus on tourism development as the area of cooperation among member countries.
“The meeting today I am enthusiastic about tourism.
”Very recently, on the proposal of member states, we came to conclusion that tourism or so could be one of our priority areas.’’

He should look for other ways to strengthen our bilateral relationship in terms of trade and investment, but not by way of visa free movement.

the real developing countrie are BRICS ... the acronym for an association of five major emerging national economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

The idea of cooperation among major Muslim developing countries was mooted by Dr. Necmettin Erbakan, the then Prime Minister of Turkey, during a Seminar on “Cooperation in Development” which was held in Istanbul in October 1996. The group envisioned cooperation among countries stretching from South East Asia to Africa. Representatives from Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria and Pakistan attended the Seminar.

i dont like this idea at all, some of those countries are hotbeds of extremism , religious intolerance and terror ..we dont need open borders with them at all.

Same way other aspects of governance should not suffer because the President is fighting corruption and recovering funds. In this case however, one must come before the other. The pros and cons of such proposal must be weighed before it is even considered enough to go to the press with.
If adequate security along with every conceivable proactive measure is not in place and u clearly admit they are not, we have no business making such proposals or commending anyone who does.

Na wah, all these are Islamic countries. Is Nigeria nw a Muslim community?

Bro. I am surprised I never heard about D-8. And i am sure many of us here are guilty. Please google it. Apparently the D-8 countries are categorized as "developing countries and majorly muslims". So, we are in the group not just because we are developing but because we are also majorly muslims. It does not seem we are partnering for trade only based on this definition if you ask me. These countries lack any serious skills we need and they are not financial heavyweights. This is not the time to open our boarders without scrutiny. Something is not right. We as a people need to be more discerning and get a bit more analytical on global issues. The argument on trade and skill is very weak so, what's up?

Oga like I mentioned, they go in line with each other no superiority there.

Living Life without food or money for sustenance and being afraid of some terrorist, which one is worst? Up north where insurgency is at its peak re pipo not still trading ?.

At this point hierarchical measures is not only da yardstick here.
