After writing about causes and risk factors of menstrual pain , I promised to give ways to ameliorate or stop this monthly pains. These are ways to ease, or stop menstrual pain. These ways are;

Heat.


This is a cheap way to ease menstrual.pain. it just requires applying heat on the abdominal part of the body where the pain is felt. The heat helps relax the uterine muscle and reduces the pain drastically. It can be executed by

· Placing heating pad or hot water bottle on the abdomen or lower back

· You could also boil water and soak the pad or towel in it then use on abdomen or lower back
Just use any method that is easy for you.

[b]Exercise

[/b]Exercising three to four times a week is good for humans general wellbeing; it is recommended to those that are prone to having menstrual pain to engage in some form of exercise . Exercise facilitates blood flow and releases endorphins that counteract the effect of prostaglandins of the uterine thus easing menstrual cramp. Yoga is a very good light exercise to engage in. Restorative or aerobic exercise are also good.

[b]Organic foods

[/b]There are many organic foods and herbs, which has many nutrients and properties that aids in stopping menstrual pain. Some are

· Chamoline tea
· Basil
· Cinnamon
· Fennel
· Blackstrap Molasses
· Papaya
· Flaxseed
· Red raspberry lead tea
· Parsley
· Ginger - a study published in journal of American Academy of Pain Medicine provided suggestive evidence for the effectiveness of 750-2000mg ginger powder during the first 3-4 days of menstrual cycle for primary dysmenorrhea ( menstrual pain)
· Taking of calcium, fish oil vit B1 or boron supplement are also good for easing menstrual pain. Though it is important to conduct a doctor or dietician before taking supplements.

[b]Aromatherapy

[/b]Aromatherapy is done using cinnamon oil, ginger, margocam and several others it is carried out by placing the oil on the abdomen and massaging it to reduce the pain felt. it helps reduce pains of menstruation. A study published in Evidence Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine Journal shows that it could be more effective than acetaminophen


[b]Acupuncture

[/b]This is traditional Chinese medicinal culture . it is done by pinning needles in strategic points on the body and is effective in easing all kind of pains including menstrual pain. If you have access to acupuncture why dont you give it a try.

[b]Orgasm

[/b]Have you ever felt orgasm before? If you have, you would know how soothing relief it gives and this makes all kind of pain go menstrual pain not exempted. At the moment of climax , blood flow increases and helps relieve the cramp. Orgasm promotes the release of endorphin that nullifies the effect of prostaglandins causing pains.

[b]Water

[/b]Water helps keep the body hydrated and prevent painful bloating during menstruation . Warm or hot water is preferable for those suffering from menstrual pain.

Oral contraceptive

[/b]If you are on oral contraceptives then you are going to experience less or no menstrual pain . Studies have shown the positive ameliorative effect of oral contraceptives on menstrual pain and that those that are on it feel less or no menstrual pain. If you want to get pregnant please dont use oral contraceptives to stop menstrual pain.

[b]NSAIDs

[/b]These are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs they are pain killers and are found to be effective in easing menstrual pain. There are several classes of drug that could be used . felvin (piroxicam), Paracetamol (acetaminophen), Motrin(ibuprofen), or Aleve ( naproxen) .

In conclusion, you could give one or two ways to ease menstrual pain a trial , use the one that works best for you .[b] In addition avoid consumption of fatty food, caffeine and carbonated drink. These will go a long way to reduce the menstrual pains you feel.
