I use Carfax. What I sent is all they have. You have to remember that the Carfax staff are not prophets. If car dealers, repair shops, the police, customs etc do not give them information, they will have no clue what is happening. For some reason, Carfax never knows when a car is shipped to Nigeria. But if it is Benin Republic, they will tell you. |

@Seeke, Total Loss from an insurance point of view usually means that the cost of fixing a car after an accident is greater than the current value of the car. For instance if a car is valued at $2000 and the cost of fixing it is $2500, the insurance company will give you $2000 instead of paying a mechanic $2500 to fix it. They may then sell the car at an insurance auction and an enterprising business man will buy it and have it fixed for $1000 or less. In buying a total loss or salvage vehicle, the important thing is to find out the nature of the accident. If the car was lightly hit from the back or side it can usually be fixed easily and last for a very long time. But if it is a front-end collision, you need to be extra cautious. Have your mechanic check out the car. Don't let him tell you what he thinks in front of the car dealer. He may be initimidated into giving it a passing grade. Wait until both of you are out of the premises for his candid opinion. |
